Knowing nothing outside of high school wrestling, all these whistles make no sense. 3:20 in and so far every time there is an engagement the ref just blows the whistle and puts them back at neutral. Shot gets stuffed, doesn’t even give him time to spin to his back, just blows whistle and starts neutral. So it’s a whistle if they’re doing anything other than just standing there or if the takedown isn’t perfectly clean without resistance? If someone would like to explain I’d appreciate it. I’m just worried because I’ve seen sports getting watered down to pathetic and I hope it doesn’t happen to wrestling. Tried to watch a basketball game but only made 30 seconds (or 3 whistles) in before realizing how we went from Shaq to LeBron.

Freestyle encourages action on the feet. With regard the the shot that was stuffed, neither wrestler tried to improve their position. The both seems to want the restart so the referee accommodated them.
