Once upon a time in America, union & independent truckers would strike over important stuff such as the 55 mph speed limit, high cost of diesel, better benefits, etc. As a retired union person, this is the dumbest, friggin' reason to strike I've ever heard. They are only hurting innocent people & families. 🤬 I wonder how they would feel if their grandparents/parents weren't vaccinated for polio & small pox & they became infected. Live their life in an iron lung or unable to walk. Or die from small pox. Both have been globally eradicated in 1979 & 1980 because the whole world was inoculated. We were smarter back then because we saw what death & destruction these viruses could do. We also cared more about our fellow American.

So yeah, it helped keeping hospitals being able to give care and now can finally go back to working on the backlog of people who were denied surgeries that they should have had a long time ago. Not just hips or eyes or whatever, but also cancer patients that had to wait because hospitals were filled over half of the IC beds with unvaccinated, while only being 13 percent of the population...hmmm..funny how stats work. They're required to have a commercial driver's license (CDL) in order to drive specific commercial motor vehicles (CMVs), need to have a International Carrier bond if transporting internationally, are required to have several documents for transportation of goods by road, & not to mention proof of identity & a passport! Its the part where they have to put something in their body that they're worried about. The "show me your papers" thing is just being used as an example ..it's a poor example. They're Canadians, they can camp forever & be ok with it with little to no money... So... It's not dark money as some one mentioned & most of these truckers are vaccinated. They are standing in solidarity with those who are unvaccinated & protesting mandates. They are showing the levity of their power in numbers by participating in this protest & have thousands of other people besides truckers in support of their movement. It's a shame to see so many people in this comments section who only have one perspective. I would suggest finding other smaller scale journalists who have been streaming live footage during this whole convoy, that will give you a non-biased perspective on the reality of the people that are actually gathering together. Klepper just grabbed a few people to talk with. Let's not forget how editing in mainstream journalism works nowadays.

I have been on the wrong side of the frustrations of truckers a number of times. And many people I know have been in the same position. However, as trucker strikes and other actions go this is without a doubt the most peaceful I have ever seen. I'm going to wager this civil unrest is being done for a variety of reasons well beyond lockdowns masks and mandates. I am sure that all of the honking and the inconvenience for the people of Ottawa and in a number of other places in Canada, and Israel, and other places in the world is real. On the other side of it civil protest is part of our inalienable rights. Right? There are many other protests that happen in Canada or the US that many at any given point might not agree with. But I don't remember certain people complaining about them. I know that protests like honking and bouncy houses and firecrackers and national flags and makeshift food stands and singing national anthems are super scary as compared to billions of dollars worth of personal property being burned to the ground, dozens and dozens killed, hundreds and hundreds assaulted and sent to the hospital, autonomous zones, rapes by the dozen, and countless examples of innocent people being assaulted and chased for accidentally ending up in the wrong area but then again who am I to say what scares people. It's a spectrum. So in the final analysis whether you understand or agree with the underlying cause for the protests one could at least give some respect to these people for doing so in a positive fashion, as compared to some. Here's a little wisdom for you... As a New Yorker you should not ever lose track of your food sources. I know you think that your latte coffee beans and soy based drinks, and veggie burgers were created in a warehouse downtown, but they weren't. Given your general awareness I would suggest that they were created on a truck and delivered to a store downtown. There are a variety of people in our society that deserve to be heard. I would suggest taking them seriously. Not just those that happened to align with you politically at the moment.
