I believe there's an argument to be made against any extremes. Anything that should last, must be done in moderation. A lack of moderation, either working too hard or too little, is often a result of fear (not daring, or being afraid of not achieving). The group and the individual, the one and the all, must be two equal halves in order to live harmoniously. If a group demands the sacrifice of the individual, it is not worthy of the individual. If the individual demands more from the group than they are willing to work for, they are not worthy of the group.

The difficulty we are facing today is that postmodernism teaches that universal truth is slavery and liberation instead lies within the realm of relativistic truth(i.e. "my truth"). For someone who has bought into postmodern truth it is nearly impossible to bring them back to reality without them first suffering greatly due to their own mistaken beliefs as any argument in favor of universal truth, to the postmodernist, is justification of slavery.

Instincts influence on reasoning. Experience during the age from birth to 15 years and from interaction of friends and prevailing situation frame the idea and belief. Decision inferred on that belief. This experience is not same for every persons. There are some reagent within each person which is not same for each person and differs the inferences. The reagent's characteristics is not understandable. Hence final truth cannot be caught as confirmed truth. It will be different from each other.

Being? This higher thing is not a “being”. Spiritual enlightenment would be the terminology I use, I have experienced it, but have no idea how to describe, define, explain what it is. The truth is out there, but it is different for every single one or community of us. And your truth does not demean my truth or makes a lie. Sadly the religious truth does demean, and when faced with that truth can not accept that. They use all kinds of biblical psycho babble to justify their truth as the only truth.

Okay.. I am a Christian for 7 years now and I just turned 62.! He is talking about Jesus obviously... At least to me. Like he is quoting the Bible big time! Yeah people use the Bible to do atrocious things also but that is man not the Bible! Thank you Mr Peterson. Why is he not saying the word Jesus I mean the name Jesus? Not 100% sure on that but I have some ideas / theories! Hey God loves every one of us and he is knocking at the door of your heart!

Dr Peterson...I want to help you understand one thing... Among the 10 commandments, only one addresses the theme of deceipt or lies as you call them.. The ninth is...Thou shalt not bear false witness unto thy neighbour... Some minor lies are admissible in social life, as doing otherwise would demand that we unveil parts of our private life. And people love to judge, especially, they love to condemn. So the Lord did not write His commandments prescribing what we cannot accomplish. The ten commandments are very, very tough to follow...incredibly challenging to follow faithfully, but they become admittedly fine to follow if we live the Sacraments, especially the Confession and the Eucharist. As for your claim that everybody has a voice in their hearts warning them about their decisions, it is important to understand that God dispenses and manifests Himself also outside of the Sacraments. Why? Because all the human race has been made by Him.

We need to cut through the word salad. The reference, "the Truth shall set you free," was stated specifically by Christ Himself, Who declared Himself to be the only Truth. St. Cyril of Alexandria stated: "Obscure as yet and not wholly clear is the word, none the less it is replete with force akin to those before it, and though after other fashion wrought will go through the same reflections. JESUS is the way, the truth and the life... Jordan is speaking more about "honesty" than God's truth. He is not a true believer yet and therefore can not confess Christ.

And what is this truth? If one swims in water, one gets wet. If one does not like being wet, stay out of the water, not easy. If one lives in a world full of lies then one become a lie. To avoid that get out of life, not easy. As for a voice in my head, I have many and listening to them drives me mad and crazy. The truth is a catch 22 thing, the truth is needing both to be the guard and not be the guard, not easy. As for doing better then your best, is one of the biggest lies, the best things in life are always the simplest things. The rest is just psycho babble, but JP would know all that, after all he spend a lifetime studying the subject, but for what, so he believes he knows the truth? The only truth is that we all die, undeniably. Anyone proclaiming they know what is beyond death is an outright evil liar, and ain’t that the truth!

uh...Jesus said "i am" the way and the truth, and the life". and :no one comes to the father except thru me" what did he call that? the great western tradition? the way he misquoted it it is. Jesus never said "the truth will set you free". he said "IF you keep my commandments, THEN you will know the truth, AND the truth will set you free" all in context. jordan, unfortunately, is far from the truth. he skirts all around it sounding "religious". jesus is not religious. you want to develop a "relationship" with something "profound"? try knowing Jesus, develop a relationship with him. He is the truth in fullness.
