I think most people get inspired by his encouragement to clean up your space, fixing things that you know need to be fixed and to sort out your life in general. While that message clearly had an effect on me, in my case the "call to adventure" is the message I needed to hear most, to stop being a coward, having the courage to aim high and putting myself out there.

I wish Peterson would analyse some Ghibli films. Those movies are so loaded with symbolism, he'd get a lot out of them

@@vishvnaik2756 interesting perspective because the Bhagavad Gita is basically a dialogue between Shri Krishna( the teacher ) and Arjun( the student ).

The floor maze in cathedrals are meant to be done on your knees, not by walking. This is meant to be uncomfortable. It is a pilgrimage and not a stroll.

Schleicherfreund Oh, it was designed to put the hurt on pilgrims. So was self flagellation which was popular at the same time. Where do you think the phrase “that’s going to leave a mark” came from?😇

As far as I understand it, it could be something like moving out to go to university. Just putting yourself into another environment and leaving the safe environment of the family. It could also be learning a craft and going to a central place somewhere in the world to learn and surround yourself with like-minded people.

I did a foreign exchange for 1 year. If you don't have that opportunity you could just get a work visa and move somewhere else for a while. Somewhere the people don't speak your native tongue.

In order to be a good ruler you need to have tradition, but what if tradition is what brought ruin to your people? what if your father was a tyrant? Am I destined to become a tyrant? maybe I should adopt somebody else's tradition?

I somehow get the feeling that at least 50% of the people sitting in his lecture are not even paying attention with those laptops in front of their dazed faces while JP is riffing off advice at a much faster energy level for the audience to keep up with. Just saying.

People have been holding these sentiments for thousands of years, and for some reason they were believed to be vital to living a meaningful life. Maybe they are, maybe they're not, but they are certainly worth considering. In the end you have to decide yourself and the only way to truly know is to try.

I think Peterson put it best when he said "As far as I can tell, the best thing to do is aim at the highest possible good because nothing that happens after that point, if you do it, will leave you worse off than you are". My problem is thinking "will this really work"? Because I'd rather die a comfortable loser than a tired one. But I think what he means is, although we don't know what the upper limits are (they could be low), there's just no telling until you genuinely try. So you might as well try to squeeze as much as you can because you're just going to wind up dead anyways. No point trying to safely arrive at death.

Courtshannon So you are doing exactly the opposite of what Dr.Peterson said in this video. There is nothing wrong with learning other's point of view, it is supposed to be a pursuit of truth, and to be closer to the truth, you have to look from many different perspective. This is the pilgrimage he is talking about.
