I just had a mermaid tail made and I'm doing zombie walk this year...I can't walk too far due to a chronic illness so I was planning on bringing my wheelchair which means I can totally wear my tail and go as a zombie mermaid!! Tapping the spirit gum gives it texture, which helps it grab the prosthetics/whatever and hold it longer. You don't need to tap the spirit gun for it to stick, but you should if you plan to wear it for a while.
