4:23 Gymnastics is extremely hard, but baseball is too. To hit a 100mph baseball, the brain takes about 100 milliseconds to process the image of the ball. The hitter has 125-225 milliseconds to decide whether to swing and in which direction. It takes 25 milliseconds to signal the body to move, and then another 150 milliseconds to swing the bat. The pitch comes across the plate in about 375 milliseconds. This is just the reaction time you need, but making good contact is nearly impossible, it’s still a round bat hitting a tiny ball. Pitches also vary, making it even harder to choose whether to swing or not. For context, the blink of an eye 100-150 milliseconds, while the total time to hit a ball including processing it, speed of the swing, and decision is around 350 milliseconds (ball reaches plate at 375-400) so if you blink it makes it that much harder.
