Love the ‘stepped’ intro Rockpile use on this great song... they dug out some of Chuck’s lesser known gems & polished them ‘till they sparkled anew... a fantastic band who are still sorely missed to this day!

Oh, well, well, well, you've blown my clouds away My rains have gone and my sunshine's here to stay And I feel so good I could really get down today I said, "Yes, yes!" Oh, what a thrill I said, "Yes, yes!" Oh, what a thrill If you say I can stay, baby, you know I will I could stay here all evenin' listenin' to the music you play Those same sweet songs of a golden yesterday Squeezin' and teasin' and pleasin' the evenin' away I said, "Yes, yes!" Oh, what a thrill I said, "Yes, yes!" Oh, what a thrill If you say I can stay, baby, you know I will I will wake up in the morning and do the same sweet things Rockin' with the record that the same sweet people sing All the clouds from the west go east, you confess it is spring I said, "Yes, yes!" Oh, what a thrill I said, "Yes, yes!" Oh, what a thrill I want you to want you to love you of your own free will Baby, you're so beautiful to want me here to stay I would be here forever but I gotta die someday But I will be lovin' you, baby, when I pass away I said, "Yes, yes!" Oh, what a thrill I said, "Yes, yes!" Oh, what a thrill Said I will love you like a lover loves a lover always

I always liked Rockpile's strange but respectful usage of Chuck Berry riffs in their songs. One Chuck Berry (or Rockpile) tune might use the opening licks from another song. Here the guitar solo (1:25-1:45) is straight out of Berry's Sweet Little Rock and Roller, even down to the timing (exactly 20 seconds). You could never go wrong when you borrow from the best.

No problem. Have you seen his latest little concert from home for the rolling stone? It’s really good, with his teenage son, backing him up.
@tattyshoesshigure57314 жыл бұрын
Andy Bowen no, I’ve not seen that yet. I saw him last year at the Shepherd’s Bush Empire & he was really good. He had this phenomenal guitar band backing him called Los Straitjackets who I’d never heard of & they.blew everyone away during their solo spot mid show. Nick stuck to acoustic guitar and vocals throughout, producing a fantastic show for the audience. I bought a single ‘Tokyo Bay’ at the merch stall which is terrific, pure Nick Lowe gold!

Oh that’s fantastic. I caught up with him on the same tour at Manchester and was so glad I went. All the cool folk dig Nick Lowe lol.

Rockpile was unbelievably great! Nick Lowe on bass had to really hustle to keep up with the other three boys. sorta like Ron Wood on bass( a lot better player than Nick Lowe but not as good a songwriter) in the JBG.

Not long after this Rockpile went bust and Lowe was obliquely criticizing rockers who continue to play American roots rock (i.e., Dave Edmunds).
