When Jorja Smith's success arrived, it arrived quickly. True, the UK star began writing songs when she was a West Midlands 11-year-old with a singer dad and a big imagination, and true, at 15 this Starbucks barista with the music scholarship met the person who'd become her manager. So there's some history in play. But a real career as a popular artist was still a bit of a dream back then. It wasn't til Smith wrote the hard-hitting "Blue Lights" at the age of 17 that the whoosh of triumph swooped her away.
