The first Final Fantasy game that caught my eye was 15, I remember I really wanted to play it but I thought "there's no way I can play 14 whole games before getting into this one" but after learning that each game is its own standalone story I decided to slowly but surely start playing the series, I've played almost all games in a different order and trust me man it's never too late to get into final fantasy, and if this is your first ever game then it's going to be probably the best introduction to the series

I've been playing FF since the first generation of Playstation. Back then, cutting scenes were the absolute highlight and it has stayed that way for me. This game is insane. The story was told breathtakingly. I felt the characters every second I played. And side quests aren't really popular in any game. What's to come? Get here, bring there and kill this. I couldn't put the controller down. 10/10 points thx square enix

If Joraptor loves it, I’m going to love it… I wasn’t interested in spending over $70 on another FF game that wasn’t the next FF7 game, but I instantly pre-ordered after completing the demo. The demo knocked me out my socks, I couldn’t believe how good it was and how good it looked. I really do hope the RPG elements have t been stripped too much.

I'll admit i do love classic traditional ff combat, but this has got to be the most accessible game for any gamer thats interested in it and those Accessibility Rings are a blessed godsend, and for some reason this got me thinking about FF8, like i said i love classic FF combat, but could you imagine if FF8 got remade with FF16's combat structure? Good gravy that'll be sweet awesome, this game has to get Game of the Year, its story is awesome, music, ambience, sound design, good character arc's shocking plot twists, an incredible world to explore im completely in love with the game, and without Microtransactions and that always online nonsense, truly the best game ive played in quite some time

Traversal and the map really to me reminds me of Star Ocean the Divine Force the fact that you can pretty much fast travel to anywhere that you want but if you just pick any spot on the map and start walking you can reach almost any spot on the map if you want which makes it kind of like an open world map and that's one of the things that I like that they did when it came to Star Ocean that the Divine Force they were open zones that seemed like an open-world because of how well they interconnected

I love this comment because you are SO correct. A lot of complaints about this game are usually the "lack of open world" but I think what they mean to say is "lack of open over-world". As in older titles you'd have an avatar of the MC (or his party) walking from one area to the next in the over-world map. And now that has been changed to a selection on the map. But if you actually explore each zone and just like you said, see how they're really all connected, then I think a lot of these complaints would be taken back. I actually favor the system we have in FF16 over the old one personally. Specially with how detailed every area is. Also I need to play Star Ocean TDF still. I bought it forever ago and have yet to pop it in the PlayStation lol.

I played and even platinum FF15, the landscape is amazing really feels like an awesome roadtrip but the story is very under-developed and rushed. How would you consider the story as compared to FF15? Is it properly done? Does it feel too rushed or linear when you reached a certain point?

@@Danny-ex3tj Yah first two acts of FF15 was incredible. Awesome vibes. Just your bros going on an adventure. Then act 3 hits and it falls off a cliff. It seems they completely ran out of time for the 3rd act and just shipped it. Kinda sad because the 3rd act world had potential, but it was so undercooked that I couldn't wait for it to be over. First 2 acts of FF15 though were 9/10.

I love this game and it’s combat even so I just wish Square Enid does not scrap that classic turn base system that FF series rooted from, I am not blinded by bias and nostalgia as I also love this kind of combat, I just wish they do not forget it and wish other FF games have turn base system while other release have this kind of combat other than that this is a masterful execution of a FF game to its combat and specially its narrative as what All JRPG should be.

Most people only say that the negatives are frame rate drops and motion blur which is what the day 1 patch is supposed to fix. So maybe there aren't any negatives aside from final fantasy mode not available at the start.

Bought it for 80 euro's after these positive reviews. My gos.. What a boring game.. I'm just smashing trough everything because the hardest difficuly feels like story mode. I know I'm in the minority, but I really can't understand how these reviews miss this. Every boss has some cool introduction, but there is ZERO tension cause you know you're going to destroy him easilly. I'm not even looking at gear or whatever. It's as boring as it ia beautiful. I feel this is extreeeeeemely overrated.

I'm about half way through the game, and I'm not gonna lie, I'm not really digging it. I watched this video to try and convince myself that I should like it more, but honestly it's just too boring for me. The combat is offensively easy, and the side quests are beyond boring just to name a couple gripes, but I am very picky, so my opinion may not be shared by many. The story is amazing though, and the characters are well written and voiced. I'm going to finish it, but it seems more of a chore at this point. I was just curious to see if anyone else felt the same as me, but after watching a few reviews and reading the comments, I'm pretty alone on this rock.

I agree with everything said in this review. Well said. However, I'd like to add a couple complaints, the first being that for the first half of the game at the very least, the side quests are horrible fetch quests that add no value other than being a constant reminder that you are missing game content, and the second being that even in the main story there is a lot of downtime where nothing interesting is happening. This is also resolved by the second half of the game, but I don't like that one moment you're hunting down an all-powerful godlike tyrant and the next you're building a workshop for a little girl. However, even with these cons in mind, FFXVI is a game I can highly recommend to everyone who enjoys action games, and is probably one of, if not THE best PS5 exclusive as of now.

I've played all but a few Final Fantasy games and I think I can say with confidence that no, not really. I feel like Final Fantasy XVI differentiates itself enough from all previous titles (in things like combat, story, etc) to not really justify playing any previous games to appreciate it more. There are recurring themes and world elements like the presence and influence of crystals, magic, and even things like chocobos (the big rideable chickens you see) but ultimately I don't think playing any previous games will affect the way you perceive the game. You should still definitely play them, they're amazing games on their own, but it's not required to appreciate or understand XVI

The only thing that carry over FF games are the summons and creatures and other small references. But even the same creature can be entirely two different things in different FF games. For example Ifrit in FF15 looked way more humanoid and was stronger than he is usually. Usually Bahamut is considered one of the stronger summons but in FF16 it seems like most summons are around the same level. (Also summons are Eikons in this game)

This review feels oddly disingenuous. I don't say this because FFXVI is bad. I don't have any personal agenda against the game. I say this because whenever you bring up what could very well be a valid and reasonable critique (such as cut & paste side-quests which is very disappointing for a modern RPG, or frame rate dips which have been widely reported), it is immediately glossed over with phrases such as: "it's ok because it gives you the opportunity to explore the world" or "it didn't affect my enjoyment of the game". "The only issue I think some people might have with the game is that it's a bit too easy". Really? That's the only thing? Even if it's the best game of the year, this review feels like pandering rather than a fair and balanced analysis.

Too much on screen CLUTTER during attack animations/gameplay. I don’t know how anyone can stand that crap. Even more annoying is the attack numbers floating around. You can’t even see the attack animation of the character through all of the special effects flying around the screen. Way over the top.

i played with the special rings from story mode. the esper system that you can acces after beating the demo shows how deep the combat system can be, and how fast the ring can swap and combo between the 3 icons. i guess mastering this combat style without the ring will take a very long time, but it might be very satisfying to pull off

Developers need to have the hardest difficulties unlocked day 1. I dont always have the time to play through again on the preferred difficulty unless its a shorter action packed game I can burn through in a couple days time. Never understood that...

I hate Dark Souls kind of games , I'm glad there are other action games like ff16 that are not using the Dark Souls mechanics . I need more of these games, but i feel like every action game of recent times are just another dark souls.

Well I'd say it's pretty balanced. MGS 3 and ESPECIALLY 4 I'd consider a movie more than a game 😆 I'm like a third of the way in and there's plenty of actual game play. There's also arcade mode and final fantasy mode if ya wanna push the game play element more in front. Personally I got no issue with a ton of cut scenes if they are good and fun to watch. To each their own I guess

For me personally after playing months of Anno 1800 complete edition, Eldenring, Hogwarts Legacy, GoW Ragnarök and Ck3 this year (a lot of gaming heavy titles) I enjoy to play a cinematic popcorn movie type of game for once, especially in summer with great weather were i just want to play something chill on evenings and don’t want to spend hours on micromanagement. And it’s still action enough to be fun instead of some walking simulator story type of game. What i do think is a big problem are passages when the story is sagging and it feels like a filler. Mainly because looting&leveling isn’t very motivating in this game and sidequests are really really generic. Also the immersion design feels very old (npc have no daily routine, invisible walls, encapsulated fights, most equipment has no optical representation, no dialogue choices, etc) Which results in this game being great for people who want to take a fun summer break from complex games in passages where the story is in focus but a pretty boring mmo experience in filler in-between chapters. All in all it’s still special and fun enough for this purpose especially since a big rpg, namely baldurs gate 3 is on the horizon after summer (31.08) Also it’s really refreshing to get a break from the diversity and woke mania from the west

i believe u understated how bad the performance mode is. Yes it is locked 60fps in combat but when you explore the world in performance mode it is nearly unplayable due to the frames being very inconsistent. This forced me to play in grpahic mode but due to the 30fps being solid i got used to it after 1.2 hours

The combat designer for this game was also the combat designer for DMC 5. All those hours perfecting the royal guard style are gonna finally pay off lol. I can't wait to nerd the F outta this game man!

Are you able to disable all these HUD elements? The visual clutter is a huge turn-off for me, as I value immersion in the games I play. Part of that means having options to turn off as many HUD elements as I want in order to drastically reduce all that onscreen clutter blocking my view of the world, characters, animations, etc. All these health bars, guard meters, directional threat arrows, button reminders, silly damage numbers, move names ("Cinematic Strike!"), and so on just get in the way of my enjoyment.

No you cant, its killing me. Especially during exploration, it doesnt allow you to explore for yourself and just has a permanent icon highlighting the objective, the name of what the objective is and when you get close - as if this wasnt enough - a big red bar comes across the top of the screen with "objective close" on it. AND if they thought you STILL couldnt find your way, it tells you to click r3 to make the permanent icon flash. Its baffling. Everything else is fantastic, the zones look incredible. Just cant see why the HUD cant be toggled like 99 percent of modern games.

Why do developers go through the trouble of designing these magnificent worlds (even the ones that aren't totally open) and then hide it all behind these UIs that obstruct our view of everything? This sort of thing actually does detract from the experience for me.

Devs said all side quests and content is around 100 hours. Main story is around 40 hours.
