As far as I am concerned, Maestro Jose Carreras is the greatest tenor in the world. It would take guts to attempt to claim that status for yourself. Yes, Tenors such as Enrico Caruso, Beniamino Gigli, Carlo Bergonzi, Jussi Bjorling, Mario del Monaco, Nicolai Gedda, Jon Vickers, Franco Corelli, Carlo Cossutta, Giuseppe di Stefano, Placido Domingo, Luciano Pavarotti, Jonas Kaufmann and others were able to sing the heavier roles and, in some cases their voices were more suited to these roles. For example, Otello, Fidelio, Les Troyens, Aida, La Forza del Destino, Lulu, Tristan und Isolda and others. However, there will never be another voice so rich in sublimity, honesty, passion and emotion as his. There is simply no-one else like him. No other tenor can put such magic into popular Lanza, Sinatra, Lloyd-Webber, theatre or musical pieces as he does. He wasn't Herbert Von Karajan's favourite tenor for no reason. In the field of Neapolitan song and folk songs, he remains untouchable. The extraordinary natural beauty, the fantastic breath control, superb vocal technique and creativity of his voice will, for me, remain unrivalled. His voice makes me sea colours and I know that I am listening to someone who feels what he sings. As he says himself, he sings with the heart and soul and not with the brain. Although, he is an extremely intelligent and wise man. A modest humble gentleman who has a complete absence of any arrogance or ego. He is a fantastic musician with exceptional artistry and a divine burnished quality to his refreshing lyric voice. The phrasing and tone are of An unheard of level. E, more than an awful lot of people, deserves a knighthood. I admire his bravery, strength _ both emotionally and physically through fighting leukaemia. His wonderful Jose Carrera Leukaemia Foundation is 33-years-old this year and has WONE numerous awards for its unstinting efforts in fighting cancer. Jose eloquently articulates how this remains one of his most important priorities. He is a true gift to humanity and I have always admired his ethic and resilience against the odds. He will always have a special place in my heart. Thank You Jose Carreras, Thank You.
