When I first started going to the opera you could hear Domingo, Carreras and Pavarotti in one week at the MET. While I have great respect for Dom and Pav there was nothing quite like Jose. He had the most beautiful voice.

Yes, Carerras had had a beautiful voice until He started singing roles not suited for his voice. And, actually, out of those three Placido Domingo has the most gorgeous voice. It is absolutely true. His voice is astonishing.

When I hear anybody else singing this I hear the notes and the music but none of the meaning it could be the telephone book they are singing but with Jose I get the beauty of the music and the absolute despair that the character is feeling

Thank you for sharing this rare clip. I am always astonished anew when I hear and see Mr. Carreras interpret this role. It is one of those he inhabits so completely that he becomes Mario, and his voice interprets Puccini to perfection. Bravissimo Carreras!

Ke bel timbro aveva Carreras in quegli anni........ Peccato ke la tecnica nn era molto affinata,x questo è durato poco, anke se la leucemia ha contribuito molto a portargli via la voce e gli acuti..... Però in questo video è un Cavaradossi meraviglioso..... Grandissimo CARRERAS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
