Life has blessed these fine musicians with a precious gift: the ability to touch souls in their most intimate lair. The troubling ease with which each layer of notes carves and shapes our emotions, fills me with rumbling awe and a deep sense of wonder. I am grateful to the Jazz Club Hannover for capturing and sharing this gem with the world. Thank you Josho, Olli and Stefan for your commitment to your instruments. I wish your all well and hope you will continue to enjoy life playing your music for as long as possible.

Totally agree.... They all sucking on Joscho's ass while ignoring the fact that Olli totally has nothing less than Joscho in this piece.
@djangopadawan6 жыл бұрын
IMHO Olli's performance here was a little bit flat. You don't feel transported with highs and lows, I felt it like boring tbh. Only my opinion, not removing anything from the great technique and talent from Olli, but I did not feel touched by his playing. On the other hand, technique aside, you feel a lot of movement in Joscho's playing with soft parts, tense parts. I think he expresses better on his instrument. I'm not a Joscho fanboy, just what I feel on this song.
@KimchiSpringRoll6 жыл бұрын
One could obviously argue in anyway they want, or even move it to the troll level. But seriously man, if you do realize how the bass plays it soooo gentle, and even not taking a start with Olli, I believe there is an intended arrangement there and Olli is definitely doing something according to that. I liked to think of both jazz and cigars the same way, people prefer differently and one can say cohiba behike is the greatest while a davidoff is also briliant, even one is a full bodied cigar and the other one mild and mellow, both are just great cigars. On Joscho and Olli's level, really, there really can be sooo much talk on the style and such but it really is controversial due to any biases or purely personal preferences. At the end of the day, I am just hoping people can have a little more respect and appreciation for both styles. If I wanted to argue, I can say that Joscho's pinch harmonic part is bs as how poorly it sounds with the mic for recording or if I am a troll i can also aruge that Joscho is too cheap to buy a high-end pick-up. Guys, let's just shusshhhhh and listen and it hopefully the music brings enjoyment to you.
@djangopadawan6 жыл бұрын
That there is an arrangement with the bass player does not necessarily imply that it becomes interesting to hear :) It's as you said about personal preference and for me especially emotion transferred from the player to the audience. Not talking here about technical sound, pickup or whatever bright sweeping technique used for a lick. I did not see anyone in the comments disrespecting neither Joscho nor Olli, even though you diplomatically stated that most of people "suck Joscho's ass". Just my 2 cents.

I "met" this hauntingly beautiful melody as "Carnival" during my undergrad years. My music minor best friend and I were too broke to afford sheet music or LPs, so we spent part of a Saturday afternoon in a huge music store, memorizing the lyrics [me, English major] and the accompaniment [she was a superb pianist who could also play by ear]. Then we scurried back to our dorm and worked out an arrangement on two guitars -- she would mentally transpose the orchestral melody and chords into a guitar-playable key. . . our combined strings and fingers, however, NEVER sounded like Joscho's and Olli's combined strings and fingers. . .
@ablond17013 жыл бұрын
Wow! I always thought John McLaughlin's version was the killer until now. I don't know what it is about the Manha da Carnival (Black Orpheus) melody that makes it so magical -- I could listen to this version forever. Inspired playing by both guitars.
