@@GoezThex its was the mind. At the time £50m was as massive amount of money on one player, huge. The pressure from that tag, plus his unending need to improve then, I assume, like with Alexi Sanchez of Arsenal, moving to a team for the sake of money only to arrive and realize how much you let go just for money, probably just ruined his mind.

Just because he's being open doesn't mean he deserves respect. He sold his soul to money and his career deservedly was finished after moving to Chelsea. He admits that he didn't care about the club, the city of Liverpool or fans. Just because he says this doesn't mean he deserves applause.

His form loss didn't begin at chelsea, it started at liverpool. He had recurring injuries that took a yard or so of his pace which was very key in his game.

He got injured though didn't he, I remember it as Chelsea were a bit desperate to get him, Liverpool were potentially aware he wasn't 100% right, as in he'd lost pace. Chelsea just sort of acted on his reputation as a Liverpool player. But he did score some very important goals for Chelsea after an initial dissapointing spell.

Torres’s was great at Liverpool but he went through dry spells as well. It was during those dry spells, Gerrard would put the ball on a plate for him to score just to boost Torres’s confidence. He is the kind of striker that uses pace and power. His goal at the 2008 Euro finals against Germany should never be forgotten as a supreme poacher's goal. He has both the ability of a target man and as a striker that plays off the shoulder of defenders (out and out striker). Once he loses that pace as he reached 26 years of age, somehow he wasn't as deadly as before as he did not evolve his game

I think big players sometimes move too soon. Hazard, torres, coutinho, many more. May be better to stay when you are in top form, and figure out what things make you have good form, and what other things make you lose form. Then, when you know yourself slightly better and what you need in order to thrive, get your move. Shame a football career is so short.

I agree, Liverpool were set up with Gerrard as the out ball with the intent of looking too feed it to Torres asap, however, he seemed to drop off before Liverpool sold him, his last year or so in a Liverpool shirt he really was not great, and even in a team set up to use his A game, he was not performing. It may have been a mental thing but I really think Liverpool actually got a great deal , and replaced Torres with Suarez, ...who was unbelievably even better , even than peak Torres , if only we had not wasted loads f the Torres money on Carroll, we might have done more in that period lool

@@radarinfinite1032 not so much luck; he never really fit Chelsea. He went from a Special player to a.. good on his day, decent enough player. Weak minded, if we’re being harsh; he’d began to lose form towards the end of his time at Liverpool. He’s also openly said many times that Gerrard was his greatest ever partner and “brought the best out of him”- he never established that kind of chemistry with any Chelsea player.

The issue with Torres was that he came at a bad time to Chelsea. In the middle of the season. Drogba still as number. Manager's job under threat. Had he come in during the summer transfer window. Things would have been better for him. New manager, new season. Drogba was losing a bit of his speed so he wasn't playing every game. Mata just came in. Things would have played out differently.

It was a system Chelsea used. Big kudos to him and Timo Werner. They have adapted and provided goals at some stages to fit in. Chelsea have used runners from midfields and wings, where everyone can score, notably Lampard. Hence, they need someone strong upfront who can hold the ball, like Drogba, Diego Costa but also convert the goals if needed

He didnt fit Chelsea, If you see torres for spain or liverpool, Most of the goals he scored was through balls, He is a goal poacher and excellent in it, Torres maybe not a successful striker in terms of dribbling, and assists. But, damt You give him a great through ball, He is going to poach it, make it a 1v1 with the Goalkeeper and scores ! Its sad, the Torres couldnt fit in Chelsea and Chelsea couldnt get the Beast they brought, but still a Big Match Winner, that shows the Quality of Torres

Torres was not smart enough to see that Chelse bought him just to get him away from Liverpool and Gerrard where he was deadly scary striker. At Chelsea he was just average, just another casualty of war.

@@CA213FAN Agreed. If you can afford to put one of your rival's best players on YOUR bench, thus nullifying them...then you do so. They lured Torres AWAY from Liverpool....so whether he gelled at Chelsea or not, their aims were achieved. Until Liverpool signed Suarez that is...who became an even more deadly striker than Torres ever was.

Torres ain’t a flop. It’s like saying Kakà is a flop bcs he didn’t fulfilled the expectation at Real Madrid. Torres won almost everything. He was a beast at his prime (especially with Liverpool). He won everything with Spain. He scored a 1-0 goal against Germany in the euro final. El Niño Will Be Forever A Legend💯

Compared to how AMAZING he was at Liverpool he kinda was though. He wasn't half the player he was. Just because he scored an important goal. He was shit at Chelsea in the whole picture. Take away those important goals and what?

oh please calm down! He's not a legend by any stretch of the imagination. Not even a Chelsea great! He's a player who gave us some great moments, that is all! Chelsea legends include players like Cech, JT, Lampard. Torress is not one of them!

Even if his goal wins the cup the club didn't buy him for that single goal. The club bought him with a lot of money to see him play like how he was in his Liverpool days. But that never came. So he was not performing as expected and the club suffered for that decision. For many results that didn't go well because he was underperforming. There are some periods where a player was kept chosen but underperforming so bad that it really was the weak point of the team. There's that period for Cahill, Ivanovic, etc. but not as long as Torres at Chelsea. Still the club was clinging to him for too long hoping for him to perform. And it would be much better for Chelsea if they just accepted the lost. Because they're losing games more trying to keep playing him while at that time the club has other choices. Even the academy player was actually worth a try because it's that bad. Same with Timo Werner now. This should be his last season to prove his value. Which up to this point he still can't reach that value. Chelsea is better to try to sell him even with loss, that is better than keep trying to play him.

after that game I played by myself and had the same situation 1 on 1 with the goalkeeper. I remembered at that moment what Torres did and did the same thing))) But goalie had fouled on me and got a red card. We won 9-3 that day on the big field 11 vs 11. Nice memories))

I think there’s a lot of revisionism around Torres suddenly becoming bad overnight when he signed for Chelsea. He was already on a downward curve with 9 goals in 26 games for Liverpool and constant knee problems. Then he joins Chelsea, is shifted right wing or playing in a two which he and Drogba both didn’t suit, it’s no wonder his struggles in front of goal got even more severe - with a lot of bad luck too it must be said, he was a bit like Werner with the amount of times he hit the bar or was a toenail offside etc. But while he clearly lost his yard of pace and his confidence to finish, his all round play was really good. He impressed me a lot more with his linkup, his combativeness in duels and his hold up play than he ever did at Liverpool in those aspects - where I think he was purely focused on goals. Chelsea also didn’t adapt to his needs it must be said. But he made the best of a bad situation and I think every Chelsea fan remembers him really fondly for his work ethic and his attitude, which he acknowledged in interviews too and that endeared him to us even more. The real villain in the whole thing is Abramovich overruling our scouting team’s recommendation of Aguero (who was begging to join) so that he could have a ‘big established name’ instead!

At one point for lfc I saw torres as the far less classy heir to henry in the premier league. Watch his goals vs marseill away 08, chelsea home 07 or west ham away 09. He had the knack of squaring up to his man on the left channel and beating him to the point of getting a shot off usually far post but someones near(west ham one i mentioned). He was the perfect number 9 for rafas conservative 4-2-3-1, speed on and off the ball, immense control (assist vs everton 09, goal vs inter 07, goal vs blackburn 09) great hold up play, goals with both feet and head, with the gerrard/torres link up being as good a partnership as you could want. The issue? Torres was barely ever fit. In 2008/09 lfc finished 2nd torres started 13/38 alongside gerrard. 10+ years on lfc have come across the perfect manager and everyones forgot torres but in his short prime and in rafas system he really was immense

That goal Torres scored against Barca took alot of pressure from us considering Barca were the team that were good at putting so much pressure in the closing minutes of the game. Still remember when Iniesta scored in th 93rd Minute at Stamford bridge back in 2009-10 season🥴
