Amang Parica.. we used to call him "billiard king" back then.., he has a tv commercial together w/ Gabriel "Flash" Elorde when i was very young.., Amang is par with Bata in the sport but Bata's magical shots made him more famous than Amang.., and Bata's humbleness and low profile attitude captures the heart of every Filipino.

Lets be happy that we had both Amang Parica and Efren Reyes to make countries name mean something in the world of billiards. Amang did his fair share during his time, he deserves the recognition as one of the best pool players regardless of what everyone thinks of him. He is just being honest of what he believes.

bata & amang..two great players, two different legacy..; one is humble in success & defeats, the other gives a ton of excuses; one is respected and acknowledge by other great players, the other is not even mention in conversations; one is willing to share his knowledge of the game, the other just don't seems to care; one is the goat, the other will always be bitter & sad because he doesn't know that it's not just about beating your opponent in any sport..it's how you handle yourself and what you offer to the fans..we don't care if amang beat bata a ton of times., bata revolutionize the game, made it exciting, inspired new generation of players..what did amang do?..( beat bata..)

Amang is just competitive, & like he said he has a big ego. But he has a big contribution to the sport. Just like The Pearl, many don't like him but he has proven himself in pool. Efren of course is the GOAT who stood over Amang's shoulders

Yes, I do agree, that he is just competitive. He is made of great stuff, a Hall of Famer himself. He spoke badly of his country as he made his american dream. His ego is bloated like Earl "the Pearl" Strickland. Whereas, Efren "Bata" became the face of Billiard--why people loved Efren, he is humble, cool and down-to-earth and Efren do not trash anyone. Amang Parica is full of himself. And Efren is the G.O.A.T. and a true-blue Pinoy, heart and soul.

Thats why Efren remains in the heart of every Pilipino as a true World Champion coz of his humbleness.

This Parica is a BRAGGART. Sure, he was more popular in the early ‘70 than Reyes... but Reyes was just starting then. My classmates and I used to watch him play after school, he was known to be the best then BUT only locally. In the 70’s, no Filipino billiards player was internationally known. It was only when “Bata” Reyes emerged that Filipino billiards players entered the international scene. “Django” Bustamente is one of the great and World reknowed players, and there are so many others. Parica is unheard of outside the Philippines. Parica claims he is better than Reyes if he is ready; if true, why doesn’t he prove that by playing with Efren when he is ready? It is true that he was known as “amang” but he was NEVER known as “god” as he claims. He was known only to Filipino billiards enthusiasts. Reyes is known in the Philippines today by practically everbody, even grandpas and the ladies are fond of him, he is the Philippines number 1 sports hero; boxing’s Manny Pacquiao is a close 2nd. Parica is not even in the charts! This guy boasts about beating Strickland and many other great players but he doesn’t talk about the times when those big names beat him. Nobody talks about Parica in the Philippines anymore so he feels bad, tsk tsk, how uncharacteristically Filipino.

Efren Reyes reminds me of the great Don Alfredo de Oro (1863-1948) who still played professional billiards at the age of 71. I supposed this is one ingredient of Reyes' greatness; he's comfortable with what he already accomplished; he's very active on the tour; you see him playing with practically anybody (young and old and with women); he seems to enjoy the competition for its own sake. Some of the best American pool players retire too early, probably because they want to protect the prestige they gained as hall-of-famers. This is one reason I don't like to see talented pool players being elevated to the HOF too early in their career when they should be still actively playing the game. Earl Strickland could have easily attained greatness beyond belief if it were not for his volatile attitude; bad table manners. He's a bad representative of the sport. He is his worst opponent; he could have beaten Efren Reyes handily in HonKong (dubbed as the "Color of Money") a few years ago.

This guy Jose Parica probably deserved to be in Hall if Fram and much more recognition but he is not! Therefore, the question is why he is not being recognized? I think is because of his arrogance and cocky attitudes doors slammed on his face. Fans weren't crazy about him, not even his own people (Filipinos) likes him and that says volume. On the contrary, the Filipinos adore Efren Reyes and so is fans throughout the world. Yes, Efren is a great player but his attitudes also play a huge part that people are drawn to him.

Nine ball with the 7, 8, 9 left, the first was the 7 ball frozen on the short rail in the middle with the cue on the rail on the opposite short rail and somehow you spun the cue ball to do a rail first cut which you did but the cue ball almost scratched and got stuck in the corner pocket with the 8 ball on the short rail across the table near the middle but not frozen. It was the two most impossible must make shots I have ever seen. If I remember it was either Eferm or another player from the Philippines

I don't know why people are criticizing him, he says in his own words that he has a big ego. I don't see how he's making excuses, he says he played many times without being ready. All that tells me, he ain't a nit. He says it's a different story when he is ready, I believe him. That's Jose parica. The guy was an absolute monster, he just didn't get the right exposure. Perception is everything. Something about him is too plain vanilla. Efren himself said he couldn't beat parica for the money. Anyway, people just don't know or understand. Parica got himself to blame some, but that's besides the point.
