My wife and I danced for 20 min to them playing this in CA. Magical..

In Swedish the tune is called "Josefins dopvals", which means "Josefin's christening waltz" (or "Josefin's baptism waltz".) The group is called Väsen, not Vassen, and they are one of the best Swedish acoustic folk groups today, despite what some wiseacres may say. Sofia Karlsson has set words to the tune and recorded it as "Alltid dig nära" ("Always close to you"), and that one is also on KZbin. Thanks a lot for uploading this beautiful tune!

@typacsk I heard this song for the first time about 15 years ago and fell in love with it instantly. I play it both on guitar and mandolin but the nykelharpa (correct spelling btw) makes this song. Anyway, my wife and I used this song in the ceremony when we renewed our wedding vows on our 25th wedding anniversary in 2008. As a matter of fact, my wife walked down the aisle to it.

This is a great tune played by great musicians - when people are skilled like this it ends up to be a matter of taste which version "is best". I so much like what the guitar player does to the tune in this version (..and i think he is the composer too) WELL DONE - I LoVe it!

Listened to both the Evergreen version and this. It is like comparing a Twix to a slab of Dark chocolate ........ I know which I prefer! I suspect some folk need to broaden their horizons.

Yep, it's a nyckelharpa, it's a swedish folk instrument. Sort of the love child between a violin and a hurdy-gurdy. Lovely tune too.

@ScottishFiddleLesson, These are the guys who composed the tune in the first place. Gorgeous rendition.

@ScottishFiddleLesson, It is Swedish music. It has a very different, plaintive, primitive (in a good way) sound than say Scottish fiddling for instance. Expand your horizons more. There is some incredible emotion and artistry going on here and it beats out 99 percent of any other folks who attempt to play this piece. These guys are probably the most famous Swedish trad group in the world and for good reason. They are all incredibly gifted and sensitive players, performers and composers.

There is a high-frequency distortion in this video that hurts my ears, too. But that is a result of a bad video copy. The performance is stunning. It would be great if somebody would post a better video copy of this same performance.

@ScottishFiddleLesson not very surprising - i think vasen is an amazing band and their version of the tune with nyckelhrapa is gorgeous with a brilliant guitar part - there are better quality recordings of them playing it but I've yet to find a better version of the tune

The video that SFL is talking about was posted and filmed by him, not me, during a beginners lesson. I am not in the game of competing against other bands to see whose version is "better". How I perform a tune in an actual performance and at a lesson are entirely different. I love this tune and this version of it and I do NOT wish this to turn into some kind of slanging match. Everyone has their own opinion. Agree to disagree and leave it at that. And leave me out of it please.

Love this tune. Heard Väsen first, compared to Evergreen. Hmmm...prefer the first. I feel transported to another time. I think it's the slower tempo, no percussion, plaintive nickelharpa. But it's just a concert violinist talking. What do I know.

ScottishFiddleLesson, it's one thing saying you don't like this version, but to say they're not very good musicians... you haven't really done any research have you? I imagine that's you playing on your video channel and, while generally your playing isn't bad, your ornamentation needs some work. Maybe you should check out another Vasen video or two before pronouncing on their musicianship, for example En Timme I Ungern (One Hour in Hungary) I know who I'd rather listen to.
