I was 15yrs old & was a waiter at the most popular disco in Montreal when this came out. Yep, I was under age but told them I was 18, $200 a night in tips was big money at 15 in the 70s. It's worth remembering that when this song first came out back '79 Moldova was part of the Union of Soviet Socialist Republics where western disco music was banned for being decadent, bourgeois and counter revolutionary. These girls' parents and grandparents wouldn't have been allowed to hear the song let alone dance to it.

You can tell the ladies in the front line are in their 20's (teachers) ... girls behind them are their students..... they had to at least rehearsed all these moves for a month or 2 months ... which is great because from what I found out, seems they did their moves to a different song at the time when recorded. Their moves, pretty much went into sequence with Born To Be Alive, and with no doubt these ladies have to be even prouder that song /Born to be Alive/ has probably increased the views of their video by OVER 14 MILLION......

I was only about 7 when I first heard this on a fairground in Ashton-under-Lyne near Manchester think it was July 1979 its a propper decent song and far better than this crap music of the 2020s as to me it ain't music it's just white noise that's it!!! 70's 80's the best? nah ..... the 60's has to be included, especially the way towards the end of the decade ... Beatles, the Stones, Jimi Hendrix, Santana, Jackson 5 & the Motown sound....so many groups towards the end of the decade formulating NEW sounds but ... no matter what its just ROCK. Not rock N roll, ... it was originally called ROCK, some radio dj said rock n roll to the white audience ....simple 4 beats to the measure. Young black musicians felt back in the late 40's that jazz was getting to deeeep with the likes of Miles Davis, Charlie Parker Thelonious Monk Dizzy Gillespie making the beats of the music more complicated. So, some of these young musicians at the time said, "just keep it simple, 4 beats to the measure....just wanna rock ..... you know to 4 beats to the measure....." hence Fats Domino, Little Richard, Chuck Berry kept it simple .... but I do get what you're saying, ... me you have to include the 60's a lot of talent really set the foundation of rock that transpired to the 70's & 80's ....
