Can someone pls explain How people check strumming pattern from tabs and memorize up and down entire playing?

for example, for a sixteenth note, therefore four eighth notes for one beat, we will do low high low high. for more complicated beats we refer to simpler patterns that we adapt

For this case what I do is mentally keep a consistent 8th beat strum per bar in my head and just touch the strings or skip them depending on the pattern That's why my hand moves but sometimes doesn't strum, it is just to keep the beat
