I first heard this on the ending credits from the movie "Deliver us from Evil". This song is a perfect wrap-up to a movie dealing with such ghastly issues as the ones raised there.

I do see how a lot of people can get confused with the lyrical meaning of this song. It's far more about obsessive love, betrayal and hurt. It does use religious events and characters as an elaborate way for different love situations where one's emotions peak (including sex), but you can interrupt this song in whatever way you wish to. Some believe there's even parts about atheism (of which I am).

Most of these comments are off-base. Who cares what the poster's name is? This is a song. I'm not Christian, and I like it a lot, and YES, my KZbin name has a purposefully misspelled "satanic" or "evil" reference... I put about 2 seconds worth of thought into it. Should not affect any of our opinions on whether a song is good or not. Leonard Cohen's original is better in my opinion, but I thought this was a great cover. I believe in freedom of choice in religion as well as music. This is music

Who cares if he's/she's name has 666 in it, doesn't mean he or she isn't allowed to post songs about love, doesn't mean you should dislike the video or treat it any differently,

The song is also covered by Justin Timberlake and Matt Morris for the victims of Haiti I believe. It was also sang at the Vancouver Winter Olympic Games 2010 by KD Lang, Which I also recommend listening to very much. She does a great job with the song as well as JA does.

@KippyLanker Hello, the song cannot be found on a CD, I believe. It can be found on the documentary "Deliver us from Evil". I do not believe the soundtrack includes the song, but I could be wrong. I found this song on Joseph Arthur's MySpace page in his media player.

@TasteForDisaster Yes, this guy is probably a christian. He still did a great cover to this song and this song has nothing to do with religion and more about "love".

Some detractors should take a minute to read up on Cohen's intention with the song. yes, he makes biblical inferences, but this is about love, troubled relationships, and sex. Its a beautiful song & Arthur's cover adds a distinctive touch. Thanks for posting. Oh, and the 666 - like who the bloody H cares! 999 for the dyslexics out there. Boo!

@basicallydavid I know what you mean, it's creepy. Some biblical scholars today translate that passage from Revelations to mean the number 616. In any event, it's code for Nero. Actually the WWE part is even creepier, but to each his own. This is still a great cover of a great song.

To paraphrase what Comedian Jeff Allen says in his online-published Christian testimony: "Most people are too UN-intelligent to be trueatheists!" Those who must criticize others who do possess, and profess, "faith" usually have some personal anger issues to work out!

I have found that many who criticize another's religious beliefs don't necessarily NOT believe in God (most do), but 1) know no better and are mimicking their friends, or, 2) may very well have VALID arguments against a particular ministry and their experiences with it. After all, Christ himself predicted MANY "false profits" preaching in God's name! And He did not identify these are small, storefront churches with small congregations. We might do better to look at "ourselves," as believers, when someone abases our faith, and ask ourselves: "ARE we reflecting God's LOVE, or our OWN churches' ideology?" There may be a b-i-g disconnect!

@WWEFreak666 hallelujah means "praise the lord" or to be more precise "praise yah" (yah being being a shortened version of Jehovah, which is the name of God, mainly for Jews). This song has everything to do with religion. Which is also confusing, because your name has "666" in it, which is known as he devils number right? The devil is considered to be full of hate, so your name is full of hate, yet you post a video about "love" according to you.
