I totally agree, I played on the worship team for about 20 years, I’ve known the musicians a lot longer than that, even after all that time I would never touch anyone’s instrument without getting permission first, the guitarists and bass players would always joke and tell me it was fine and I didn’t need to ask permission, it didn’t matter to me, it was all about respect, a man’s guitar or bass or instrument is like his woman, you don’t touch. I always got permission before playing bass or guitar with someone else’s instrument. It’s respect.

The very first piece of advice a pro drummer gave me as I was starting to learn was use a light touch. If you can play a beat at a whisper, it really helps build stick control, and makes it possible to have a more dynamic groove, instead of playing at one volume the whole time. You can't use accents if you're just hitting everything as hard as you can. I'm also self taught, though I have had the opportunity to have professional drummers critique my playing and throw me some pointers.

I learned to play drums by tapping my index fingers on a CD player I held in my hands as I rode the school bus. By the time I actually sat behind a kit it all came naturally. Once you learn the coordination and patterns, the rest is easy.

@rjones68018 жыл бұрын
John Miller yes dynamics, stick control, etc aren't possible, but I think the first obstacle you face is coordination. You don't need a drum set for that.

I've actually been surprised at how good Levitt is as an actor. I really liked him in the films I've seen. I didn't watch him in The Walk. I have a bit of vertigo and figured I would lose my lunch.
