I think the Lord uses objects/touch everything from clay, to the diving rod, to the Liahona, to consecrated oil, to ordnances, to physical touch, etc. to build faith. We often need a crutch until our faith is sufficient and we can walk on our own! God speaks to us in our language!

This is fantastic! I was just studying this week about Joseph's eyes being touched in that 1st vision account to receive the gift of seership just like Enoch, Isaiah, bro of Jared and other scriptural figures!

Except he was already a "seer" when he went on treasure digs with his father.

And Joseph could be using the words "touch" and "reached out" in a figurative sense. How often are we touched by something that doesn't actually touch us. How often do we reach out to someone by way of a phone or email? Am I saying God couldn't or didn't? No, I'm saying people sometimes get caught up in, or intentionally force a singular misinterpretation of a word or phrase. If The Lord had not prepared Joseph, at His age he might not have been able to bear what he would experience.

The green stone could have been Labradorite which can be polished to a high luster. The brown stone appears variegated. It could by Tiger eye which contains a lot of quartz. The white stone is likely quartz. There are also accounts of a black stone which could have been obsidian but no description of its use.

I was disappointed that he didn't address the claims about guardian spirits of the treasures and the animal sacrifices and the driving in of stakes to counter those spirits. Whether one believes these accounts to be true or not, they're serious enough to be addressed in a talk like this, in my opinion.

He's drawing from some real iffy sources, green seer stone my foot. There are no magical stones laying around on the ground. Seer stones have to be prepared by the Lord and given to the seer. Why are these guys using these false stories to rewrite Joseph's history?

I think if someone from Joseph's time held and used an iPhone, they might call it a "seer stone." And putting it in a hat would make it easier to see in the sunlight. Just sayin'

Does your iPhone guide you to find buried treasure and tell you about guardian spirits protecting it?

I went to the Church years ago Some really nice folks. 😊😊. But they tried to control my life. I left after 2 years. So did several of my friends. Magic is magic 🤢🥶😈. Thats all. Take care 🙏💯

Recently Sunstone put out a podcast saying that psychedelic drugs were used frequently by the early saints, especially in the Kirtland area and that Joseph Sr. and Jr. both were frequent users of psycedelics. Do you think that this has any effect on how the stones would have been used and seen by both the Smith family and the early saints?

First, this talk either purports, or denies that people looking at stones can do magic. At the beginning he says that there’s wealthy magic, and then there’s poverty magic. But neither we’re really all that magical. He then proceeded to say that looking at the stone worked for looking for treasure. Except it never actually worked at looking for treasure. The speaker seems to want the benefits of the magic of stones, but none of the negative stigma. I’d have to ask the speaker what he thinks of Joseph’s opinion on the matter. And what of Joseph’s contemporary stone lookers or seers? Were they magic? Was Joseph the only real magician? What is the connection between stones and prophets? Why don’t current prophets require stones? Can I or someone today use a stone to see holy or lost materials? We have to ask ourselves if looking at stones is an effective way of finding things or speaking with god. And thereby magic takes place between a stone and a man. Or, was there more to the story? Psychedelics can be used today by anyone. You can use them and will likely have an incredible experience by the very definition of the word. If you we’re required to draw the shortest line between stones as a gateway to god, or stones used as mask to psychedelic experiences - you get to decided which line is shorter.

Mind you, everything that this speaker says Joseph could do with the stone was pre priesthood. Pre “gift of the Holy Ghost”, so anything Joseph could do with the stone must be happening with the gentiles even today.

Wonderful presentation. Thank You. The word "science" was also used to say "method" or system or the process of doing something.
