Don't you mean 'shilling in the woods'? Titanium canteen & cup (only mentioned 4 times) costs (US)$155; titanium spork is $22! My stainless steel version (spork included) cost $30 and weighs just 28 grams more (that's 0.06 lb for those of you still using measurements imposed by the 19th century British Empire). You pathetic dopes don't even realize you're watching an infomercial. The dog is just there to have a good time though.

Even if you start out in your back yard, do it. A steak is weirdly more satisfying if you created the fire yourself and eat it under the sky. Get a magnesium fire striker for like 5 bucks and give it a go. Dog is optional. Buy much bigger steak if dog. (and definitely try out the recipes from the book Uncommon Taste, which can be found in Skyrim)

The great thing about watching these bushcraft videos is that I pick up ton of useful knowledge outside of consumer media you see today. No ads, no sales, no fluff entertainment, just pure survival knowledge, even if I barely do any myself. This videos also shows me what many people are missing nowadays; practical living, getting in touch with nature, spending time with yourself, and just being independent of "man-made", besides the basic survival needs of sustenance, sleep and fitness. Where would you find this in the idiot box, without the price tag? I appreciate that you take the time to make this experience as enjoyable as it is informational to be learned from, and I do hope you'll continue to make these great videos and be rewarded for them in the near future. And I hope more people would spend more time watching out for these types of content on our already publicly available Internet and be able to make good use of them to better themselves. Cheers

Why are people upset? Backpacks are great for healthy dogs. Not only can they bring their own equipment, but they also often feel like they're doing a "job" which some working dogs need, and it's great for building strength, depending on what you put in it. Plus you can then fit more in your pack and being more to keep the pooch comfy durring your trip.

JOE, first class video and excellent bush shelter. One comment with a little constructive criticism, Been hunting, bush crafting and backpacking, etc. for over 50-years now. Started at age 7. 90% of the time, I see and watch the so called experts wield their axe and come straight down vs. At an angle on each swing. Doesn't help your blade when you come straight down & dulls it 10-times faster. Also, swinging an axe with all your power and As hard as you can swing! Trying using 10 times less of your own bodies strength, energy and CALORIES too and let the weight of the axe do all the work. It will make life and your camping trip with your faithful dog 10-times more fun & enjoyable. Just a thought I'd share with you. William

Thanks for the video. Living in Western Australia we don't get any snow to speak of, and the cold is -2 or so at best and not often. Nevertheless, I like to do the same thing here and just love being out in the field. I met a Canadian guy my age (47) at a Bible study I was attending in 2016 and we hit it off. We have become good friends and I love hearing the stories of your homeland. Which happens to be my stepfather's (of 40 yrs) homeland as well. I remember asking him when I was young, what Canada was like, and he simply answered...COLD ! That's something I never forgot. In Australia, as you may know gets very hot, but surprisingly at night the temp can drop to levels that would still cause acute hypothermia. But, nothing like you get in Canada. Enjoyed the video and watched the whole thing. I had two German Sheps for 14 years, so of course I loved Scout. Seems we aren't all that different around the world. God bless you all my Canadian cousins and Peace from Down Under. Marc

Cold is bad yes, but not as bad as Australia's deadly creatures you can't always 100% protect yourself from. When camping there to forest. Deadly unique biteing Jumping spiders. Even waters are deadly.

@@AllenTax Yes mate we do have most of the nasty little bastards that are in this world, nevertheless, I can assure you after 49 years living in Australia, Western, Perth actually. There are many places to go bush and you most likely won't even come across a Kangaroo or a Bobtail goanna. I spent most of my young years in the bush camping and served 6 years in the Australian Army and I can count the times I've seen a snake on one hand. They are around and yes they are deadly to say the least...but don't believe everything you read or hear. I see your country (Canada) on the TV and in videos and think it's one off, or maybe the most, amazing places on earth. You're very lucky. However, I guess it's diversity that makes the world what it is. If there's one thing in this country that would alarm me the most, it would be "water". In our outback without water...you can be dead in 3 days, and not have moved an inch. Moving...3 to 4 hrs. I guess we both have opposing climates, both fantastic and both deadly. Those Moose are bloody scary ! Peace...Kuz

@@INHUMANENATION Yes, couldn't agree more. My Canadian friend from British Columbia and I, both get kicks out of re-living old tv shows we watched growing up. It never ceases to amaze us both how much we have in common, mainly due to that. I guess, being British colonies we were served many BBC programs and of course all the shows from your southern cousins as well. It's funny, a lot of my favourite American actors are actually Canadian. Makes me like them just a little bit more for some reason...Oh and by the way, when we down under hear or read the words "great white" scary thoughts come to mind. And as a coincidence Jaws is on the tv as I type this. I hate that film. I have a photograph on my bedroom wall that my father had taken back in the 1960's of a family of Canadian Indians travelling in their wagon, it's a beautiful photo and I had it enlarged years ago. So, I wake up everyday and admire a moment captured in time of your beautiful people and wilderness. Peace to you...Marc

I like the vid for sure, it made me want to get back out again. Few things... why not pine boughs on grounds to cover mud and for insulation and padding? I could see the many hundreds of dollars that went into the gear off the bat, but i never expected the knife to cost 300$... Can you do some budget versions specificically focusing on knife, axe, tarp and clothes? Not everyone can afford a full set of titanium, gortex, artisan knives, etc. Thanks for the great vid tho, better than most content on YT!

Look into LT wright knives. They are cheaper and still pretty solid knives. (Compared to a $300 Adventure sworn.) I have both and really like both. I would look into the LT Wright bushcrafter HC Knife and sheath for $105,then save towards an adventure sworn. Happy Crafting

Well, since you brought up material... Just get a carbon steel knife. Avoid any exotic or trendy materials when considering an affordable working knife. Some stainless steels are very good for knives, but they’re more expensive (they also have other drawbacks). Carbon steels are reliable steels that are generally cheap, and they are easily worked on. You do have to sacrifice corrosion resistance, compared to stainless, yes. It takes some rather minor maintenance there, but on the other hand, the rest of your maintenance will be much easier.

Joe, when you made your fire, could you have heated up a few large rocks (probably split them in half throughout the day) and ran everything just the way you did, leaving the large Rocks are sort of an insurance... Then when the fire reflector fell down and burnt, take some of the big rocks and put them inside the shelter, one at each of the 4 corners..... Then took the loose end of the tarp, closed it up and tacked it down, holding the heated rocks and you and the dog all in one semi-contained unit? Or wouild the wind have just blew all the hot air right out of the shelter with each gust?

I like the way you mix old school and new tech in a cohesive way. You seem very knowledgeable about all things "bushcrafty", and I've employed some of your techniques in my own bush craft adventures.
