The way he shoots out of the cage like a wind up Willey Coyote after whatever he's pointed at is great to see! That was so cool! Boon stalked that fella down and pounced! 🤯 Something I'm learning about training animals as my first service dog has had to retire due to health issues: start training another animal NOW. You don't want to end up without an animal to meet your needs. Service dogs take hours and hours to train and it'll be probably a year before we go in public. Though I know dogs are wayyyy different animals. 😂

Why Boon did not tried to catch ducks ? He was busy on muskrat or he knew that ducks are forbidden ?

I assume its more to do with focusing on the hunt, it could be training so far as hunting muskrat is the comfortable option but I would assume that if boon was let out closer to those ducks/ducklings instinct might have taken over because realistically them ducklings are much easier prey than a muskrat.

How did you choose Boon over Crocket when they were younger? Anything specific you saw or just a coin toss really?

Boon was and remains the more confident mink. Crockett always had more fire and drive but not quite as much confidence as Boon. Without giving them identical treatment it's difficult to say which would have been the better mink.

What Boon is doing is the equivalent of a human swimming into the middle of a lake and grabbing and killing a fish the size of a human. Imagine trying to catch a fish with your hands that’s the same size as you!

As someone who has had some experience with training (mostly) dogs, NOTHING EVEN REMOTELY compared to what Mink Man is and does, I think what Joe has done with Boon and many of his animals is nearly amazing. Boon is a little hammer, that little guy can boogie woogie. And then (I'm sure in Joe's hands) a cream puff...totally adorable. So Joseph, my hats off to you as far as the 2nd part of this video and some of what you mentioned. You're right we all (people and animals) have an amazing amount of potential but I can assure you of 2 things: you are a high performing animal trainer and boon is a high performing trained animal, it would take years and years for someone to replicate your current state of performing.

Joe the way you and Boone work together as a unit it’s poetry in motion. You have a mink that truly does love you, and will do anything you ask of him. And a mink that is so good at killing muskrats, beautiful. And I agree wholeheartedly that you should enjoy this relationship make use of it learn from it. Have you ever considered or came across a small camera (they are usually for cats) that you chould put on your mink while they hunt? I'm not sure if they would maybe make it harder for the mink to hunt, although they arent much bigger than the GPS that you put on them. Also now that I think about it not sure how much "good footage" you would get from it. Love your videos, always a treat 😁

I remember you saying in past videos that a regular mink would have a lot of trouble beating a muskrat in open water. I still believe that to be true. This is no regular mink. The parents were picked for their already remarkable strengths, and you've fully bonded with and trained it from the time it was able. You've created a supermink!

On a side note, do you like ravens and/or crows? If I ever make the decision to get a hunting bird, would a pair of ravens be a good option? Also, would it even be possible to get ravens and crows to get along well enough to teach them group signals?

@@Drakonus75 I love the whole crow family, ESPECIALLY Ravens! I don't know that you could hunt much with them. They're pretty opportunistic when they prey on things, they are as specialized as birds of prey.

"I'm in Dallas, my out-door pursuits are pretty limited." First words out of my mouth hearing that was 'Come to Carrolton! I'm constantly having to chase critters out of my yard!' lol Seriously though, when I had my 'pack' of dogs, critters were never an issue, but now that my last/youngest dog is now 16+, Squirrels, Skunks & Opossums are a constant issue in the garden, and I've occasionally seen black rats as well. There's even been sightings of Coyotes and Bobcats in the neighborhood, and this is still considered 'Dallas', just as far north as the city possible goes. Surprisingly lot of wildlife up here that we have to learn to live with.

I like the explanation of temperament and choosing a mink to work with. Just like with any animal, the more you handle them the more manageable they are the more you leave them alone, the feral they might become. It's the consistency of the trainer along with the temperament of the animal. Sorry. For the rant. This was something that took me a while to learn ..lol
