When it comes to breeding you need a good stallion n an awesome mare. The mare’s side or line will be your biggest asset.

Hi again! A big yes Joseph. So enjoy hearing you speak about the breeding aspect. I was heavily involved in line development for my own program once upon a time. I was very much like Jess knowing lines characteristics combinations etc. It's fascinating and after some time it becomes an intuitive gut thing in making certain choices and decisions always hoping you get that big reward with a brilliant outcome. Sounds like you're definitely on the right track Joseph. Now I'll be looking forward to the upcoming vids on the topic and also maybe to include Jess and her thoughts and ideas too. As there are no guarantees the excitement and challenge of the process is cool beans as they say! Thx as always...

I think it's great you are supporting the brain of the horse with your purchases. Too often I see the mind over looked in that part of the animal heredity. Thank you!

Awesome video! I would love to see more videos on breeding and bloodlines. I recently got a TB mare and, I would love to learn more about the warmbloods. It is really nice to hear this information from a person who actually rides! Beautiful horses by the way!

Do you ever look at Dam Lines, too? They take more work to study, but I've read some articles by breeders and trainers, that suggest that the mother has a bigger impact on the offsprings character, as she raises them and they usually have no contact with the stallions (in difference to wild horses that are raised by the whole family)

Your re absolutley right. 75% is the mare and 25% is the stallion. So it should be taken care only to breed with good mares. No foot deseas. And yes, all Florestan children are beautiful nice and have good gaits. But if they should collect their body and have to put way weight on the hindlegs, they do quit. They don t like to work hard..I m talking about the age from 6-10 years when real work starts. 🥺

YES we are very diligent about a solid dam line, its key!
@alexk79735 жыл бұрын
@@exclusivedressageimports9670 that's great! I'd be really interested to know more about that part of your process. Do you have any foundation mares you are looking for? In your videos, you often concentrate on the stallions and maybe the mother's father. I don't remember hearing about mother lines, back to specific mares, possibly because many viewer and buyers have little to no knowledge and wouldn't recognize the names anyway?
@raraavis77825 жыл бұрын
All that careful planning and in the end, it’s still a little bit of a gamble - but that’s, what makes it exciting 😁 I think, you won that bet with Furst Knight, though 👍

When it comes to breeding, the mare is just as important as the stallion, maybe even more important. Anyone can breed with top stallions hence why there are 1000's foals for sale with good father lines but they lack a good mother that's why they don't sell or don't sell for much money. When breeding you have to take many factors into account, mindset of mare and stallion (a very "hot" mare needs a cooler headed stallion to even out), gaits of both mare and stallion, how is the walk, trot, canter? If the mare falls short in the canter you will need a stallion with a excellent canter etc. You cant forget the height, does the mare give small or big off spring? If your 1.68m mare gives 1m63 offspring from a 1m70 stallion you should try and find an even bigger stallion,... Those are just a few of the things you have to think about when breeding. Have a look at the totilas offspring, the foals from totilas were not even close to good or spectacular but look at horses like Total Hope, Total US, Toto Jr,... they are all doing incredibly good so it means that totilas offspirng only starts to performe good at age 4-5 and later. Another reason why his offspring is doing so good is because he got the best mares in the world because of the high price for his semen back in the day. (between 8k-10k usd)

Great insight and timely! I would also like to hear your ideas on Dam lines as well as the Stallions. I would also like to hear your thoughts on the ideal confirmation. One serious question, does the size of the horse affect perception at the Grand Prix level? Great videos, please keep this format coming....
@fleetskipper18105 жыл бұрын
jim cour Moorlands Totilas was not that big a horse, so I don’t think that size matters.

I am also interested in his thoughts on dam lines. Also would like his take on conformation fashion. Am old enough to remember big heavy horses becoming popular after Granat.
@alexk79735 жыл бұрын
Concerning the height, you might be interested in checking out some of the FEI ridden ponies. So long as the rider fits the horse and they move well, height doesn't really matter. But if you breed / sell small horses and ponies, you might not find the same amount of riders for them. Same with exceptionally large horses.

I am very, very interested in any reviews you post about warmblood breeding lines.

Enjoyed hearing about the breeding (But "out of" Furstenball?!?) Would like to hear how you balance the breeding with evaluating the horse before you once they are 3 or older. Do you only look at particular breeding because you know they tend to meet your requirements? Or do yu look at video first and consider the breeding second? Also would enjoy hearing about which lines seem to cross really well.

I can't believe anyone would review Fürstenball without mentioning his weak pasterns! I really like the idea of stallion reviews, but way too little actual discussion of his qualities. How about rideability, temperament, individual gaits, conformation?
@carolynstewart84652 жыл бұрын
Weak pasterns? I don't see it! Seems to me, Joseph emphasized temperament .

Yeah, finding a good stallion is step one, but getting that paired with the correct mare is the essential step two. 👍 Looks like the breeders you guys buy from clearly have that figured out.👍
