Since Gene Wilder died recently, this song has been going through my head a lot - plus Barbra Streisand is doing a duet using this song with Seth McFarland (another fantastic singer - the musical numbers of Family Guy are some of my favorites just to hear Seth's beautiful voice), I wanted to hear it so I just came to KZbin to see who has sung it and I see Josh Groban. I like Josh, I've always thought he has a fantastic voice - but I wasn't a true fan, just someone who liked his version of "The Prayer" with Charlotte Church. I watched his video of "Pure Imagination" and was totally blown away. Josh is a Powerhouse singer, he hits every key/note he can be beyond powerful and back it off to a very long, sustained, perfectly held ending that leaves one with tears in their eyes. He's grown into a beautiful man, gorgeous eyes that hit the camera just enough without overdoing the eye contact. Of course, I've now listened to a number of his other songs and some are great, I love them, some aren't for me - and such is life. Obviously there's NO comparing Josh's version with Gene's they are so vastly different and they both work for the reason intended. That's the wonderful thing about music, it can be twisted and turned to give it what you want, make it what you want, no 2 versions need be remotely close to each other. In this case, I love Gene's version for the scene and mood it was in, I love Josh's version for the same.

This is sooo beautiful! When I saw that he was doing this song I was happy, but a bit skeptical cause Willy Wonka is one of my favourite films of all time. However, after I heard him sing it, all my reservations melted like chocolate.
