The debt of conservation use it as a pest control solution. basically it's a poison dumped into our forest which is supposed to control pest species but pretty much gets into everything

the lesser of two evils, and cheap(er). if something isnt done, we will lose our unique animals and plants. the alternative is much more costly, labour intensive and extremely difficult with inaccessible places.

+rahowhero sadly it is killing bird and insect species at a huge rate, rats bounce back, possums are just about gone from many areas - our unique plants are also poisoned by 1080 which in turn kills insects that the poison doesn't get. 1080 was developed as an insecticide - kea are about stuffed so we can't keep using this poison, lets please find other ways - is definitely not cheap, costs more than they say but worse, kills our unique things see www.1080science.co.nz and think about giving a little to Dan's group who are trying hard
