I think it might have made things sightly easier for me first watch. They cut from 'she got sick', to meeting the mother on the platform. I couldn't pay attention to it though, because I wanted to know if she was sick and got better or died. A funeral scene would have removed that ambiguity.

I never had an issue with the original ending, but I wonder if the it would have land differently if Ted was this emotionally affected while recounting the mother's death. I guess the problem with that would be the prerecorded response from the kids wouldn't match the tone, so that's probably why they didn't do it that way. If the kids would have also been moved by how Ted met their mother, and then move to a more positive note by letting Ted know they are fine with him moving on, since him and Aunt Robin have been getting along so well, maybe less people would have problem with the finale, except for those who absolutely couldn't stand the thought of Robin and Barney not ending up together.

@@chrisrockett5897 All of the Kids scene were recorded in Season 1 itself, since they were just teenagers and filming over 9 years would've made them look old as well but that wasn't the case because Ted was narrating it in the present..

Barney and Robin definitely didn’t deserve to be together forever the only reason they were together is because they were messed up in the head diving into a lifelong commitment with those issues never being worked out individually is eventually a deal breaker so makes sense it didn’t last long

Aaaaaah my heart breaks for Ted but to every god there is, was and will be, thank you for making Tracy the mother!!!!! It meant a lot TM (to me) that TM (Ted Mosby) and TM (Tracy McConnell) ended up together!!!! I mean I got myself a Yellow Umbrella the second I could, so I'm always going to be rooting for the two TMs that inscribed a TM on that umbrella!!!!!

The finale was filled with terrible decisions, and one of them was tO change the script from the table read. There WAS supposed to be a scene of the mother's funeral (1:39) and they stupidly decided to cut it. The end product gave the viewers no time to grieve, never showed us the gang and the kids grieving, just, "Oops! She's gone, too bad, he loves Robin again now!" The fact they just glossed over her death was an insult to everyone who loved the Mother. WORST. SERIES. FINALE. EVER.

iirc they had to cut out about 18 minutes of footage due to having to squeeze everything into a double episode instead of a triple episode as originally planned. Definitely would explain why the ending narrative feels so "rushed". Once scene that is still available shows robin and ted inside a restaurant (I believe it is the blue french horn one). That scene would have helped a lot to show that ted was truly happy with the mother.

I believe Josh hasn't gotten bigger roles is because he doesn't want them, tbh. He has a musical project, and probably receives money till this day thanks to the show, so he might be happy doing whatever he wants. Kinda like Daniel Radcliffe.
