“Where the Dream Ends” is one of those songs I’d been writing in my head for a little bit. The opening lines and melody were all that I had, but they arrived in my mind with such surety that I remembered them like one sometimes remembers a vivid dream. I didn’t have the song yet, but it was the feeling the first lines gave me that made me realize an emotional throughline between all of the songs on ‘Heaven, or Someplace as Nice.’ I finally finished it, radically reworking about thirty different ideas and approaches. In the week before recording. I liked recording it plain, solo, unadorned and straight-on through, like a feather sledgehammer. It made me feel like one of my all time favorites, Jeri Southern.
