Fabulous song! The Salton Sea used to be part of the Gulf of California, which went all the way to Indio. The Colorado river created a delta which became a land bridge which sealed off that part of the Gulf to become Lake Cahuilla/Salton Sea. The Colorado River then took turns either filling the Salton Sea, or when it overflowed like a bathtub, it would reform a new part of the Colorado River which would again drain into the Gulf of California. It is not just an engineering accident that resulted from the damming/damning of the Colorado River.
