I watched one program that said that English people are really particular about whether you put the milk in before the tea or after. It goes back to before Chinese porcelain was created before you would put the tea in first so that the temperature difference wouldn't shatter the clay cup. When it was invented those who could afford it would show off their wealth by pouring the milk in first to show that their cup wouldn't shatter. For hundreds of years, England was a divided society and the differences show up today in the oddest ways.

No wonder! Sugar in tea is a nono in most cultures :-D think english, japanese, indians, koreans, ... Nobody would think to mess with the taste of good tea by putting sugar in it. Invest in a good middle range tea (not the one with the little broken pieces in the little cloth bags) and you wont need sugar anymore.

This episode inspired me to have a proper English Tea. Today I am making clotted cream...cooked 12 hours and cooling in the refrigerator. I have Pinterested lots of scone recipes. I have ordered English tea from Amazon (I could not find any in our local stores...crazy Yanks!) I don't keep milk in the house, but I purchased a quart just to have tea like the English. I know my husband will not partake, but maybe my co-workers will patronize me. lol ... Now to decide which scone to make...vanilla, bacon maple, cinnamon apple, cinnamon sugar or browned butter? Any suggestions?

호진 저두요! 스콘이랑 주로 같이 먹는다는 건 알고 있었지만 바르는 잼과 크림 이런 거까지는 잘 몰랐는데 ㅋㅋ 그리고 사실 생각해보면 아시아의 조상님들은 찻잔 데우는 거 부터해서 시간 들여서 함께 하는 사람과 소통하면서 그렇게 마시는 멋진 다도 문화를 가지고 있었는데 뒤늦게 산업화에 뭐다 살기 바빠 후손들은 그런 문화를 즐길 여유 없이 달려온 느낌이네요. 영국에서는 저렇게 하루 중 일부를 차 마시는 시간으로 당연히 빼서 즐기는 문화가 자리 잡는 동안 말이죠. 그래서 우리나라도 이제서야 점점 더 느리지만 직접 찻잎으로 차 내려 마시는 그런 게 자리잡는 건가봐요.

I really loved this video. Your mom is just lovely. I’m from the US, but having an afternoon tea with my mom has become a tradition. I’m 50 yrs old and we still have our special, afternoon teas. On Mother’s Day I take my mom out to a park or scenic lookout…just anywhere she wants to go. So, I pack a cooler with finger sandwiches, small hors d’oeuvres, cakes & cookies. I fill a thermos with tea…and off we go! 💕 *there are a couple differences between the afternoon tea w/your mom and the teas that my mom and I have. My cucumber sandwiches have cream cheese rather than Marmite. And I use the tiny bread that is sold in my local grocery. I usually get the pumpernickel. Then, the other sandwiches that are tradition at our teas are egg salad sandwiches and pimento cheese with cured ham* ✌🏻💕😃

In our Aussie house scones were always dished up with butter and golden syrup (made from molasses) the cream and jam came along much later in my life. My guess is that we never had cream in our house when we only had an Ice Chest for cooling. Syrup didn't need refrigeration much like honey. We used to have the Aussie fav Bushells Tea. My mother made a pot of tea for breakfast, morning tea, lunch, afternoon, tea, dinner and smoko (about 9pm) there was never a drop left in the post. Mum probably drank 10 cups of tea a day.

진짜 영국남자(혹은 졸리) 영상보면서 느끼는 건데, 확실히 세계화가 된지 얼마 안 됐군요. 인터넷의 보급으로 빠르게 다른 나라 소식을 접할 수 있는 요즘 세대들은 국가간의 특성이 별로 안 느껴지는데(있긴 있지만 옅음), 이번에 나오신 조쉬 어머니나, 올리 아버지처럼 윗 세대 분들을 보면 전형적인 영국 레이디, 젠틀맨 같은 우아한 느낌이 들어요. 반대로 한국에서도 요즘 세대보다 윗 세대들이 더 한국만의 특징을 잘 담아내고 계시죠.(흥이라든지 정 문화 같은거)

좋고 나쁘다를 나눌 필요는 없는것 같습니다. 그리고 세계화가 꼭 좋은것도 아니라 생각 합니다. 세계화로 인하여 과거의 수많은 가치들 생각들 그리고 문화들이 사라지는것도 사실이니까요. 어떤 사회또는 집단이 됬던 지금과 같은 인터넷 시대에서 모든 정보 및 문화를 포용할수는 없습니다. 새로운 가치 또는 생각들이 더해지면 기존의 가치 및 생각들은 버려지기 마련이며..결국 많은 부작용또한 생기게 됩니다. 그것을 좋다 나쁘다 표현할수는 없다 생각되네요. 이런 부분에 있어서 많은 장,단점이 존재하겠죠. 인터넷의 보급으로 여러 좋은 가치들..문화또는 개성들 또한 사라지고 있는것도 사실이라 생각합니다. 지역 및 민족 그리고 각나라의 특색이 있는것인데..인터넷의 보급으로 여러가지 문화 및 정보들의 교류로 인하여 많은 변화를 맞게 되었습니다. 무엇보다 새로운것을 받아들이다는것은 기존의 것들중 몇몇은 필히 버려지게 돼있으니까요.

As an American I learned to make my own clotted cream. And I always have black tea or Earl Gray. For Harry and Megan's wedding I actually made clotted cream cucumber and salmon sandwiches as well as scones. I was up at 4:00 in the morning doing that so that we could have them with the wedding
