If you're looking for input: The pips player was chopping in front of their body, without a lot of quality. In that situation, what you see is what you get re reversal: if you push a couple of light, deep pushes towards backhand, the pips return will be a weak topspin. From there you need to be counter hitting it with forehand or punching it with your backhand imo In any case good match, ty for the upload!

Thanks for the advice, that's really helpful! Do you know which serves / patterns are most effective vs long pips? There's one kid at my club called The Wall TT (he has a YT channel) that I always lost to in game 5 🤦🏻‍♂

Hihi! As an LP player, I can speak to some serves I don't love: Baseline, serving long and no/low spin to their backhand/pips side is a fine idea. I see that you have a generally long/fast serve, so that's a good place to start. The deader your serve is, the less control they will have. You can pretty much guarantee that you can open on that long backhand dead ball, it will come back with little to no spin. If you give it too much top, they'll return it with a lot of back. From here, try the following mixups: Serve dead and short to forehand (they'll be primed for backhand and often touch this one too hard, causing a popup) Dead and short to backhand (Dead is really important here if you don't want to die, be sure to prime them with a couple of long ones first) Loaded backspin long to backhand (they will develop a lazy return after a few dead ones and dump this one into the net if its loaded) I'd say you want to do those mixups about 1/3 of the time, with dead/slightly top to their backhand the rest of the time. If you're not giving them spin, their pips won't give you spin back. What you DON'T want to do is give them a loaded short serve, be it top or back: they can just swat it and return all of your spin to you. Best wishes vs the wall! I'll see if I can watch some of their vids too. @@musclepong

After watching your match with Vikhyath , a few thoughts: They are very consistent and seem tough to play against! You had the right idea in game one. While yes, they got more dialed in over time, another, more insidious thing happened: it really looked like you lost a lot of your confidence getting in your head about the match. There were several weak/popup pushes, that you thought about attacking, then pulled back? And Vikhyath proceeded to take back control of the rally. I know its easier said than done, but I think that getting out of your own head is such a huge part of TT; it's such a psychic struggle. As an aside (I think you got this advice from panda pong too): you could stand to work on your pushing game. It's not necessarily fun, especially for someone that likes looping as much as you, but having a consistent and varied push is so important vs material players, and in general imo. There were several times that I think if your push game were safer and more consistent, Vikhyath would not have gotten the openings they did. Also, for what its worth, I'm not much higher USATT rating than you, these are just my loose/idle thoughts watching from a third person perspective (and as a pips player). If you have a coach, they are probably going to be more equipped to help out! @@musclepong

These are definitely tough but good losses to have. You will see some missed opportunities to use attack with your forehand but opted for a backhand receive. You should commit to those attacks. Even if you miss, you can say you went down swinging.

Thanks man - sometimes losses are better than wins in the long run. I definitely need to get more comfortable receiving with my forehand 😅
