the thing that makes dyom great is that we wanna see even the tedious parts of missions. its not like any% runs where josh runs the same story missions over and over so we already know whats going to happen from beginning to end of the line. that makes more sense to edit out the uninteresting bits

Not that I'm in favour of edited dyom, but to be fair, if the mission tells you to drive to area 69 from groove street then it is obvious that the next five minutes of the video is going to be josh driving through the map. If something funny happens during the drive, he'll keep that part in and get rid of the boring bits.

I'm guessing the reason people hate the idea of edited dyom is because it started out in the unedited format and that's how it's been for two years now. If it were the opposite, that is, if the first ever dyom video was edited and not just the entire stream uploaded to YT, the audience would've prefered that over the latter to this day.

I've always wondered how typing in text works in DYOM. Does it have you select each letter of the alphabet manually like high score initials in old video games? Or can you just type on the keyboard, but with a caveat that if you want to correct a typo you have to delete the entire cutscene and start all over? I can only imagine the pain judging by the amount of malformed captions in those missions.

@@neoqueto a window pops up in the to left corner and you just type it in. But there is-not even an input lag-but sometimes the mod ignores inputs, so you have to type slowly enough for it to work. It does explain a lot of typos.

The shitty and frustrating parts are also funny. The fact that you had to swim for a minute to start the mission adds to the hilarity of the brokenness of that mission, and further explains your frustration with the mission rather than just the fact that the mission fails within a couple of seconds. That being said, perhaps a tighter edited DYOM will be more beneficial in terms of the YT aIgorithm on the main channeI (we're not privy to your statistical blade, maybe you're seeing significant engagement drop-offs on the "boring" bits), and perhaps it will more than pay for whatever the cost is of editing it.

An actual serious note about the editing: I understand where you're coming from @Joshimuz, but I honestly ENJOY the sections of the video where you're actually frustrated with the long drive, even when NOTHING IS HAPPENING, seeing you sitting there, looking occasionally at chat and contemplating a skip at any point is one of the main reasons I'm watching the WHOLE video. (Also, wouldn't it be less work for you?) I do understand if it's because of viewer retention or something of the sort, but I never really liked any editing for DYOM in particular, and honestly, one of the best parts about the videos, is checking the runtime and seeing how many minutes after the 1 hour mark there are. THE MORE THE MERRIER! :'D

"Seán" is not originally an English name, but an irish one. Irish spelling works differently from English spelling. The only vowel pronounced as a vowel in that word is the "á" (though the a loses the little ´ in the modern English spelling). The "e" is not there to be pronounced as a vowel, but rather, to indicate that the "S" is slender, and not broad. Consonants in Irish can all be pronounced broad or slender (sometimes called hard or soft). It's like the letter "G" in English: have you ever noticed that the "G" is (usually) pronounced one way when followed by an A, a U or an O, as in Gary, gulp and goal; and it is (usually) pronounced another way when followed by an E or I, as in germ or ginger? Imagine every consonant had that -- that's Irish phonology! So, put short, "Seán" makes sence in Irish spelling because: The "S" is pronounced slender (like sh in English), and the fact that it is slender is indicated by the vowel "e" after it. Additionally, because this name has become so widely accepted in English-language areas, spellings that seem more in line with English spelling rather than Irish spelling have started to appear, notably "Shaun" and "Shawn".

Out of curiosity, why is referencing the date of your runs bad exactly? Also are some interiors in DYOM not usable at all? I don't think you've ever had a mission in a pizza parlor or any of the gyms. Also that race mission was really cool, clever way to work around the mod's limitations.

I don't think this comment'll reach you, Josh, but the inbetween, the "pointless driving", is incredibly chill. Personally I love having a good DYOM in the background when I'm handling other content, on the second monitor. I would vastly vastly prefer keeping it fully uncut like this. The inbetween is equally as interesting and chilling.

1:14 Crazy Miami Grand Prix review! Russel didn't make a stupid move at the last lap of the race Verstappen didn't win the race Sargeant actually made the safety car come out after his crash to allow a certain driver to have the perfect pit stop timing. I don't recall Stroll doing anything special in the race, but maybe I'm wrong because I didn't see the whole race. Alpine actually had a driver finish in the points, they didn't finish 19th-20th Tsunoda really beat Ricciardo! I don't think Ferrari messed up their strategy apart from maybe Sainz asking for a driver swap, but again, didn't see whole race.

I wouldn't mind edited DYOM content, there is so much downtime and unfunny missions in between sometimes that I literally just skip. There is also like 150+ hours of DYOM content alone that would be great for YT Shorts.

9:34 This isn't even a dyom thing, just a GTA SA thing. NPCs are programmed to freak out and jump into the water when you are standing on the boat they are driving and since the driver was set to "must survive" the mission immediately failed as he died. My guesses are that the author wanted the player to counter this problem through the use of a mod that would disable this mechanic.
