Additionally, before they used the magnet, they were checking dates for pre-1993 coins, however, some 2p coins minted in 1998 are actually made of copper as well - they would have missed out on some profit. luckily, they switched to the magnet anyway - the better method regardless of magnet size.

​@@J_-_the 1998 2 pence coin is bronze not copper. When you melt these with copper you will see that the bronze is heavier and will form at the bottom of the bar and will be a different colour. Don't ask me how I know 😂

Two pence coins made before 1992 are not made out of copper. They are actually bronze. I have evidence from a 1986 proof coin set. “2 pence - features the badge of the prince of wales with the motto ICH DIEN (I serve). Struck in bronze, it measures 25.91mm and weighs 7.12g.” This is my information

It is not illegal to melt foreign coins in the UK. In addition, the Coinage Act does not apply outside the UK. One could bring his/her British coins to France and melt them there. In France, it is legal to melt any coins, foreign or domestic.

In Argentina if you get coins as change you never want to use them, hold them and latter sell them by kg because the metal is always gonna have (and hold) more value then the value of the currency so it's kind of rare to see coins here lol

It is illegal to melt or break up coins in the UK. According to the UK Coinage Act 1971, one cannot melt or break any metal coin which is, or has been, current in the United Kingdom after 16th May 1969 (on that day, Parliament approved the Decimal Currency Act). So you cannot melt your pennies in the UK. Else you risk a £400 fine and/or two years imprisonment.
