The huge problem is that even if this weekend is the worst event F1 can put on, there will be someone there to point out that “it’s the first year” and continue to hold the race there. When F1 first came to Austin, we were given free tickets because there was not a huge demand for them until DTS happened. Now we have a large American audience yet this race had very few people in the stands. It’s going to be a revolving door of excuses while the workers of Vegas suffer the consequences of road closures and street repairs. I’m also incredibly tired of street tracks

It probably also didn’t help that this year was about as interesting as starring aimlessly at a wall. If we had even a *slight* chance of a race for the championship, I reckon people would have hocked up the cash and gone regardless of the price tag. But as it stands… yeah. We all saw what happened in Miami and Austin when the crowd booed Max. It wouldn’t be a stretch to assume that Max’s dominance is undoing all the work his battle with Lewis in ‘21 did. Everything leading up to this race was just disastrous for it in every way imaginable. In hindsight, this race has DOA written all over it.

People laughed at me when I said F1 was repeating the same mistakes Nascar did in the early 2000s. Rapid expansion, catering to a casual audience rather than focusing on the people who made you big, making it about "The Spectacle". Nascar imo has the most die-hard audience and it still took them 20 years to recover, even still it's nowhere near as big as it used to be. When F1 announced the Vegas race I could see the writing on the wall, but when I spoke about it it was always, "you're a hater", or "you're just a dumb American, F1 is too big to fail like Nascar did". At this point I think F1 has officially gone a bridge too far. They've already lost a lot of it's core audience and a lot of the DTS fans are moving on to different things. The FIA and Liberty either has to full commit to this casual entertainment focused embarrassment of a "racing" series or go back to being the actual pinnacle of motorsport, where it's all about the racing

I can't stand Toto, but he asked a good question in the press conferences last night. "When's the last time you made content that wasn't negative?" Starting to notice a trend here.

I hope the Vegas residents fight back on this event enough for it to never happen again. Whoever was behind this thought that Vegas was a good idea, all for show as opposed to actual racing. Indianapolis is just fine, and yet they only care about the show. This is pretty much a sign for them to stop caring about the show over the quality of the race. We can't get Hockenhiem but we get Vegas, ugh.

teething problems are when the camera placement isn't quite right or there are audio glitches... at a race, the track should not be part of the glitches... but that could just be me and or an unrealistic approach to the world premiere single-seater racing series.

As a former Las Vegas residenr and a person who grew up there.... these race times are absolutely normal. Las Vegas is so used to the nightlife/heat controlling the city that things are open very late and a lot of events run at night. Electric Daisy Carnival is from 21.00 - 0.600, just as an example.

For those who are wondering if all street circuits cause major disruptions... the one in Singapore doesnt really affect day to day traffic till the week off the race. So what the las vegas residents had to endure was pretty shit.

As someone comfortably sitting at home, I'm still quite excited for this race tbh. I'm really hoping that the low temps and fresh tarmac will make for an interesting race. I couldn't care much less about everything around the race itself, aside from the FP2 thing being weird and that they really should've allowed the locals to watch from those bridges etc. That would've been free positive PR.

As an American in the Midwest, the fact that the race is being aired at 3 am, the absolutely ridiculous cost to go to it, and all of the shit that has gone wrong so far- screw this race. I hope it fails and never happens again. What an absolute shitshow

I live around 5 hours north of Vegas and have been a fan of F1 since 2018 that hasn’t been to a Grand Prix. When me and my dad found out about the Vegas race, we got super excited that there was finally a race within driving distance, only for it to cost more to go there than to fly to somewhere like Austin and go to the race there. I hope they figure out a way to lower prices because there are plenty faithful F1 fans waiting to go to a race that don’t have 3,000 dollars to attend a full race weekend.

Yeah they say this is about appealing to the American market, but which Americans, exactly? Because the ones who care about racing don't seem to be the ones catered to here. This seems focused on spectacle and style more than racing, not to mention the atrocious ticket prices and start time for the GP.
@scooteria6282 Жыл бұрын
And it’s not going to pick up traction on American TV or streaming because at the race start the MST,CST, and EST timezones will all be in the dead sleep hours. Waste of money for F1. Sham of a sport.

@aimanazrie8944 P2 and just 2 seconds off Verstappen is good! Not to mention, Leclerc would've won if Sainz hadn't gotten the penalty because Sainz would've been forced off-track by Verstappen at the first turn instead of Leclerc. Verstappen doesn't get clear air, comes out further down after his stop, and has to clear another car before Perez.

Most probably wont know how dangerous that manhole incident could be, the F1 didnt wanna cover it but if you look up video/photos of the incident its horrifying. For starters its not the kinda manhole cover youre probably thinking of, this ones very small, its small enough to go straight through the gaps of a Halo, and the part of the track its on is very high speeds. You can probably imagine my concern for these racers.
@christiancompton2326 Жыл бұрын
I attended the race. I was gifted tickets as an early Christmas present. FP1 was a disaster, Sainz's Penalty was beyond absurd, and the whole, "logistical," nightmare that was kicking people out before FP2 was a shitshow. Other than the first part of the event, it kicked into high gear. FP3 had some great competition and the whole of qualifying and the actual race had me and my dad on the edge of our seats. We had a great time and the race had some incredible action and competitiveness. If they can fix their problems like spectator entry and navigating to the hotels, it would be a spectacular event. I hope for the best for this venue

I agree with you about all the stuff, the track design is meant to show less of a complexity factor.

I’m so glad that just days after, it was proved that jumping on the fashionable “this race sucks, the track sucks, F1 sucks, blah blah blah” bandwagon proved to be what it normally is… fashionable but not USUALLY right. That’s also accounting for the wildly over critical reaction to first-race teething issues that certainly weren’t minor, but not uncommon across the history of F1. I love JR’s content but this video felt like just another person on the bandwagon trying to maintain the narrative.

Can we add that nearly half of the US will struggle to watch just because of how late the race is. They could've had it start at 8 pm local time and still be reasonably dark outside to have a night race, and for most of the US to be able to stay up to watch it. I don't expect the ratings to be any good from this event.
