For those that think these are just games, Max Verstappen, the current F1 world champion, is one of the most active simracers in the world. And in his position he could race in whatever category he wanted to, but instead he prefers to do simracing to try different categories. These "games" have gotten that good over the years.
@WromWrom

And the companies developing them strive to make them as realistic as possible - within the boundaries of a simulation, of course.

Blanket statements like this don't tell the whole story, not all games are created equal. You have sim racing games and you have arcade racing games, (and simcade, which falls somewhere in the middle) sim racing games is what Max Verstappen is playing.

Although the name of this Jann's mum doesn't match the guy I know who was commenting on fans of a higher side slating him as he returned to our club. But the person who is apparently his mum mentioned Jann on Facebook I have no idea if she loosely related like a Stepmum to him and this guy is her actual son.

I was invited to the GT Academy Finals at Silverstone in 2014. I wasn't good enough to qualify on the Gran Turismo 6 route, but I had entered an online competition and scored highly enough to be invited to the Silverstone finals. Unfortunately, I couldn't go as I didn't have a driving license at the time.

But remember, you proved you’re good enough to have that opportunity. That’s cool you entered online competitions and did well. I did iracing with my 3 closest friends for a long time. I have 2 highlights. A photo finish win and I had the opportunity to race against former wwe star bob holly who loves iracing. He gives great advice for newbies and he explains everything no matter what the question. His knowledge helped me and my friends figure out road courses. Our struggles on them ended with his advice.

@@H-Real_8 I was too right there. Me and 2 friends couldn’t afford it. But our other friend ( there was 4 of us) His dad and step mom had great jobs. His step mom was a model from Japan. His dad worked in a factory with my dad . Due to his step mom being a model, she knows a lot of people. 1 of her closest friends is Michelle yeow. Her husband Jean todt is a good guy. Doesn’t say much. When we all graduated college they bought 4 racing sims so we can race whenever. Michelle and Jean had 1 rule we couldn’t race unless we turned 21, did well in college if any of us graduated before the others, and earned by our actions. I miss every off from work, we’d race and have a great time randomly picking which tracks to do and if we did daytona/talladega we’d draft together. I haven’t raced since 2017. I’m now married. 36, but even though all of us got bullied, dealing with that is how we became good friends. I most likely will never race again. But. Idk player KZbin channel has my iracing fire going. I enjoy watching his streams of iracing. Bob holly is 1 celebrity/race car driver I miss racing against. A hilarious 1 to race against is jewel. The singer. She was hilarious. She made even the worst wrecks and people angry to laughing and forgetting about it. Edits: mistakes I made typing. Typing the wrong words by typing to fast and not reading it back before I commented, I asked Michelle and Jean what the rules were for us to race.

As much as I enjoyed the film, it's incredible to me that they took Jann's story and somehow made it LESS interesting by disregarding many of the details to make it a better advertisement for the PS5/GT7. I really wish they'd committed more to telling the true story, and not just a story based on a true story.

I really enjoyed the film. I didnt know much about him, but it did open the door to me learning a lot more about him. The movie did take some "liberties" with his story, but I still felt it was a good movie for non-racing fans and racing fans would enjoy it. A bit of a disappointing decision to make a crash that happened a couple years after the movie as a big story element, especially when it resulted in the loss of life though. Kinda felt like they turned a tragedy into a opportunity without paying proper respects to the individual who died and Janns story. However, it was a good movie, the acting was good, the story (minus the crash) was good, and the cinematics were amazing.

He's a terrific racer. Hope he's got a seat for next year somewhere, if not during this one. Getting away from Nissan might be the best thing to happen to him given the increase in the hypercar grid (taking over from LMP1) in the last couple of years. More manufacturers are due to join, so it's possible we'll see him up the front again. Very proud of my young countryman! 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁷󠁬󠁳󠁿

Honestly i really think a move to Toyota/Lexus could prove beneficial. As far as manufacturers go in Japan (if he still wanted to get into the Japanese scene), Toyota is currently the only brand that has a variety of racing programmes to get into (especially compared to what Nissan has right now). Toyota/Lexus is currently developing a brand new GT3 car for WEC and other GT series use and it can also be used as a clear stepping stone if he really wants to go to the Hypercar class.

I think the story of the first GT Academy winner, Lucas Ordóñez, it's very underrated, having in mind that he was the first of all, going to the absolutely unknown, and having a pretty good career after that. His success was the seed that made posible to people like Jann became driver too, because without that success, Nissan would have been shut down all the project fast, and instead, they felt encouraged to look for more talents like Ordóñez and Mardenborough. As I said, pretty underrated. Needs more recognition.

I've been obsessed with the Gran Turismo games. I have lived within a 30-minute distance from the Hungaroring for two decades and was really looking forward to an incredible cinematic experience like 2013's Rush from Ron Howard! Unfortunately, I've set the bar too high and the film couldn't have lived up to my expectations. The idea of the game is to feel like a 'Real Racing Driver' with lifelike models of machinery and courses! The movie was unable to give back the same feel, and as you have said Josh, being a bit of a racing nerd and someone who's a frequent visitor to the filming location in real life, the immersion was broken. No amount of CG could mask it once you've seen it, although they did mask the 'HUNGARORING' sign of the main building with an extra layer of reflective windows. Going backwards on the track layout also didn't do anything. Credit where credit's due, they did manage to shoehorn in the Mulsanne Straight with some in-game footage to the layout!😂 I'm sure Jann is happy anyway getting a well-deserved movie, and a Josh Revell video made about his journey! Well done, Sir!

GT Academy really suited guys who didn't have a full time job - I did have one so only had time to give it a handful of tries at the time. If I was practicing all day like these guys I reckon I would've had a good shot of progressing haha. Was well within the top 1000 after only a few goes. ... I can dream.

This movie inspired me to conquer my fear of driving and ironically my first video game purchase was Gran Turismo on the PS1. Jann and I also share the same birth year (1991) his story means a lot to me.

Years ago I thought to myself that turismo should make a movie. I never thought they would make one about a young man like this. 😮. But I have to say he earned it, at least comparatively. I pray Jann Mardenbrough much more success. Despite its imperfections, Gran Turismo has always been “my favorite game “. 😊

GT Academy is a big slap to boomers who always think that gaming only waste time and has no benefit. That kind of programme should still be alive to this day.

Gran Turismo was an amazing movie if only Sony treated it as a true homage to Jann instead of making it as 2 hour Gran Turismo/PS5 and Nissan ad.

I keep seeing so many complaining about how "Inaccurate it is" when it came to the tracks and as someone who followed Jann's career I know this but folks don't seem to realize that you can't completely go 1:1 with this without basically going broke. - Filming at Le Mans of all places was NEVER gonna happen. Good luck convincing the French Government to just close down their public roads for filiming (AND ponying up the cash for spending multiple days there). And even if it was during the event, do you guys not understand how busy the Le Mans Week is? Hell it would've been a miracle at this year's massive anniversary event (Which you know was booked to hell and back). - Its not as simple as turning up to a track, just having cameras and cars. You have to pay to be there and with how many tracks Jann was at over his career and the amount of days spent just at one of them filiming, try to guess how much money that would've amounted to just to have every single track accurately represented filming at them (Go ahead, I'll wait). I guarantee you it was simply cheaper to do a good portion of them at the Hungaroring then it would've been to actually have all of them. Friendly reminder that the movie "Le Mans" (The one I'm sure many have used to justify said complaints) bombed at the box office. Guess that extra realism really helped, didn't it? Oh and btw, Jann was involved in this film from day 1 (Which was back in 2017) so there's your guy if you want to complain about inaccuracies. Also: where exactly where you folks when Ron Howard did similar things with Rush? I guarantee the same thing was done with Ford Vs Ferrari and I guarantee the same will happen with the upcoming Ferrari Movie (And going off the not too bad numbers both the former movies did, it'll still do well and prove that the inaccuracies don't mean squat in front of the movie going audience, which is exactly what this is aimed at). It is simply more cheaper and practical to make up the other tracks and just shoot at an existing one or two then trying to book a shit ton of track days at alot of tracks (which WILL add up in addition to all the cost for catering, crew and equipment). At the end of the day, its a Movie. Throw away your brains and just watch it.

Amazing content as always Josh. Gotta say, Cameron F1 makes some decent content too, but good Lord, it’s hard not to laugh at how over-dramatic his narration is. So much so that I always wonder if he’s just taking the piss and trying to be goofy, or just over-doing it 😂
