I can't thank Tim enough for the musical journey he sent me on by accident really. I remember years ago looking for a replacement pickup for my tele, stumbled upon Lollar and there was Tim doing the demos. Instantly stopped caring about the pickup search and started looking into this phenomenal player behind the demos. Through Tim I then discovered Ted Greene and thats a musical journey I'll be on forever. So thanks Tim for the music and Josh for the terrific interview

There needs to be an “Monastery” episode. That was deep. I get the sense he found himself as a musician and a human being during those years sitting in silence.

What a wonderful interview, Josh. A monastery for 10-12 years! Ever since I found Tim on YT about ten years ago, and he absolutely became my favorite guitarist, I always knew in my heart there was something extra special about him. To me, he’s the new age Ted Greene. Thanks, so much, for making my day.

Yes, thanks to both, great interview. Glad to hear about another (than myself, I mean) guitarist who was greatly influenced by Mose Allison. And the withdrawal to a monastery, wow...If I'm ever again in the Pacific Northwest, I hope I can have a drink with Tim Lerch. Just very moving.

@@TimLerchGuitar I am a huge fan of yours from India. Your playing just told me this is what i want to try to sound like. I think i mentioned already somewhere else but I am a very late beginner in guitar and am taking your truefire course. Its a gift. Thank you.

This was awesome. The part about 12 years in a monastery surprised Josh just like it surprised me. But looking back at Tim's playing and content, it all makes sense.

wow. easily the most fascinating of all the flat V interviews, imo. obviously, tim’s playing is world class but his life-story is so profound. love the moment where he finishes the 12 years-in-a-monastery soliloquy and josh realizes-in the most gracious and respectful way-that he has to get back to the relatively mundane business of the 10 questions. priceless. thanks for these, josh. especially this one.

Hey Josh, just wanted to say thank you! Your interview style is a really structured insight into the different personalities/people behind the guitars of the music scene; players whose music we may have heard or seen, even virtually on KZbin for years but never really knew a lot about them.. until now! Keep up the great work. Ruling!

OK, I've been listening from pretty much day 1 of Flat Five. Amazing guest. The best, and I've been waiting hoping it would change, but your vocal audio needs help. Please, spend a few moments to get better (your) vocal audio. Keep it up. Love the guest and the questions.

52:00 haha yes, I learned in my how you can tell how good a school jazz big band guitar player is...by how lazy they are! The best players know when to sit out, especially when there's a piano, bass, drums. Obviously not 100% true all the time, but applicable in a high school setting at least
