FINALLY!!! Someone gets it! It's nice to finally see someone that pays enough attention to the smaller details that make the song. This guy knows how to lay ease off the hihat back beat during the verses and interlude instead of just beating the crap out of it. Bravo!

What has always killed me about Metallica's "Black" is not the production (though Rock/Ulrich/Hetfield did a spectacular job), or the songs (though at a tight, mostly lean 62 minutes, there's not much flab at all; the arrangements are clean, and the melodies are amazing). It's the GROOVES. Lars seemed as though he really had to focus on the groove, especially for this song in particular. Any drummer can master double kick in 5/4 time. Any drummer can master a gravity blast or snare/kick/ride fill combo. What separates good drummers from legends is their mastery of the groove. Lars nailed it here. Josh, your work on this cover really, truly DOES bring out the groove.

What does groove mean? My first language isn't english, could someone explain it?
@tuanomsoc6 жыл бұрын
@@drixer6596 it is the way the song makes your body move. Your face starts to wince. Your head starts to nod. Your foot starts to tap. The more they groove, the more you move.

Allot of drummers play the hi hats wrong on this track with a perfect 1.2.3.4 constant straight forward pronounced notes with the stick but the hats have a drag to them, a loud slosh accent and in between two taps on the hi hat top creating that drag feel, its one of those signature Larsism's and Josh you nailed it, in otherwords some drummers that cover this overplay the hi hats to tight and straight, its all about playing the hats loosely but with a slow open feel
