Joshua 10 explained. This video is very insightful on the topic of how Joshua needed to act in order to wipe out all the cities which were inhabiting the areas where Israel was to set up its cities and its boundaries.
All the kings of the country, of the hills, of the south, of the vale and of the springs had to be taken out before Joshua and all the Israelis proceeded to settle. It is sometimes difficult to understand why all this needed to happen, but only God knows the big picture - we only have to follow His lead.
