This song sounds like... "I want my childhood back. I'm tired of being an adult." Just about every adult can relate this.
@tysargent96473 жыл бұрын
Who knew a song about inviting people to a colorful, friendly street could also be seen as a resentment to growing up and having to leave the things you loved as a child behind. It's like if a show played the Mister Rogers theme as a wistful call to be accepted in a world that looks at someone differently.
I dunno. This doesn't make me want to be a kid again, but I do want to wrap Kid Me in a hug and tell him that everything is going to be okay. It's melancholy, but in a way I didn't expect.

this is a comment from @TheaterRaven on the scrubs scene with this song but I thought it was relevant here as well. As a child, you see "Sesame Street" as a fun show that just teaches you your 123s and ABCs. It isn't until you grow up and look back on it that you realize it went much deeper than that and, for many of us, it represents an innocent time in our lives that we all inevitably pass through. We have to, it's part of growing up, but for the rest of our lives, there's that part of us that secretly always wants to return to it. In short, we're all left asking, "Can you tell me how to get to Sesame Street?"

Listening to this as an adult...having gone through life's ups and down and thinking back to when I would hear this and sing along as a kid...really hits you hard. Puts the innocence, opportunity, and potential that we had has kids and wasted as adults into perspective.

Had to come listen to this again after hearing the news that Caroll Spinney, the puppeteer and voices of Big Bird and Oscar the Grouch, passed away. Once we reach adulthood, we spend the rest of our lives trying to get back to the innocence of Sesame Street. Thanks for helping us try to find the way, Mr. Spinney. Rest in peace and blessed be.

I love that so many people find their own meaning in this song. For me, I feel it in my soul, I was forced to raise myself, often taken advantage of, and far to often manipulated and lied to. So when Iisten to and sing this version of the song it feels like lamentation to my childhood, how I wish I could go back and get back the time that was stolen from me for the gain of others. I feel safe to feel exposed and even cry for the crime committed upon me and my innocence. Thank you all who open up in these comments, it takes courage to do so. Be kind to yourselves ❤️

The scene in "My ABCs" was so, so sad (a father of an 8-year old boy dying of lung cancer); this is where I first heard this song (this version anyway). This was a bittersweet bed for that.
