Just had bought this board as a newb and was like, I'm probably stupid for trusting an AIO but the 'support' was just sooo good. Pumped to understand now that you did the manual! It comes in today and I'm actually replacing the FC on my X220 with this one and changing over to the RCS2 and Unify Pro 2 for smart audio. I read through the manual and it is definitely the best fc manual I've ever read 😁 Adding links to videos really makes it more accessible to a broader audience. A piece of work to be proud of. The only two (very minor) things I thought about as I read through it was 1) the serial rx only aspect wasn't mentioned in the introduction/features and 2) that when saying don't go above 1.5A on 5V it would have been extra clear to say 1.5A/1500mA since most consumption figures to add up are typically given in mA.

The more realistic thing to ponder is how many other companies will just copy-pasta relevant segments, and backfill with engrish to complete theirs? I think any company looking to establish themselves as a premium brand should look to the model of leveraging excellent KZbin reviewers to assist with Alpha/Beta testing AND documentation going forward, so it's great to see that. The totally awesome version will be digital versions of the manuals with links to videos for key documentation aspects as well.

Joshua, you did a masterful job on the user manual. It should set the bar for everyone else. If we want to make this hobby more accessible, then this is what must be done. The board design is very interesting. I thought I'd be doing a lot more black box work than I do. The reality is the stock PIDs are pretty good. Fine tuning by visual q's and sound like you've thought us seem to yield pretty good results! Therefore, I don't think the ad slot is critical any longer. Thanks for the heads up on the foam and ribbon cable. The honesty is much appreciated. Look forward to trying it out.

Just added this to a Japalura 3" and so far it is really smooth and solid. Still have to shake it down in the long haul, but impressed so far. And I agree on the mounting complexity. I tried to put a receiver onto the stack above it with standard stand-offs but the receiver had a chip on the underside that would touch the IMU (and it was a pretty low profile chip). Adding some more space to the standoffs will help, but obviously it will make it tight for anything else on the stack. And as for the manual...I was reading it before I saw this video and definitely noticed the attention to detail - especially the QR Codes were a nice touch. Good job.

Another great thing about this FC I found is that it provides quite adequate video filtering (and current) via the 5v pad even to the RunCam split which is known to be very sensitive to noise and power hungry. I almost don't even need to add caps to my ESCs, but I will anyway to make the reception even better.

Just flew this FC... all I can say is WOW.... Unbelievable control and NO VIBES at any throttle... I fly 2700kv Dal5050 2-blade at 72degree camera angle and basically full throttle.... :) .... even in a full throttle sweeping turn no vibes.... My max amps went from 84amps to 95amps cause it's not vibing anymore.... I have to say all your suggestions to them were spot on! easy to solder, easy to setup ... actually came pretty much set-up already and of course an excellent manual.... and NO VIBES.... good Job!!!! ... I'm buying 3 more FC's tonight for all my other quads!

So I’ve run into a problem with my new Kakute v2 board.. whenever I try to save and reboot on betaflight, it kicks me to the main betaflight menu and disconnects the board. Is this a known issue?

Hi Joshua. It is really well designed FC. I can confirm that gyro on the piece of foam works great. I have built two almost exact same racing quads, the only difference is, one has DYS F4 and the other one has Kakute AIO. I could not get rid Yaw jittering on DYS F4 BF3.1.6 no matter how much I played with PIDs. On Kakute BF3.2.0 with stock PIDs no jittering at all, quad flies smooth. The only thing which I am not happy with is 5VDC regulator.It is not filtered very well and 1.5A is not enough. I have TBS unify V2 5V version, RC swift micro and XM+ connected and when I give big throttle punch OSD disappears (I have 1000uF LSR. on battery pads).

It's a great manual mate, should be proud of it. The s.port works a treat along with LUA scripts. Vibration mounting works amazingly well so there is no problem with the mounting (well and truly tested). You do however need to run a specific .hex file atm if you want blackbox recording as the standard betaflight build (and one loaded on the board) causes the OSD and camera output to drop when running blackbox. Big point worth pointing out is the through holes in the board for all the major board connection points (ESC's, batt etc), this stops that pesky lifting of the pads problem that can happen in hard "landings"...

I bought this FC due to your video and because I have only used the RotoGeek SSD FC. The maiden was SICK! It flew really good and I do want to give the credit to the soft mounted FC. Although I have no way to prove thats what made it so smooth. The motors are RotoGeek 2206 2350kv and super smooth so I wonder if the smoothness of the motors plus the soft mounted FC make it feel so good. Honestly the best quad copter I've built so far. I LOVE IT!

hey, I bought this board together with a hobbywing 4in1 ESC. To get the OSD right on consumed current, I need to wire all the ESC wires (positive and ground) to the current input of the 4in1 ESC, right? like 4 wires down to the one input socket? Halp plz!

I want to see a FC that has the gyro completely separate. I want to experiment with moving the gyro around on the drone. What I mean, there might be an advantage to have the closer to the front of the drone for a racer. On a freestyle drone might want to have gyro higher up in the center of the drone. Just an idea....

Quick question on this board. I have a 7.4v min VTX, but the Kakute only has filtered output for 3.3v and 5v. Would the VTX still work fine on the 5v filtered output - as long as I don't crank up the TX power too high? Or should I go to vBat and either add another inline filter, or live with the noise?

I learn something every time I watch Joshua's videos. The reason why I bought this board among the many I researched is that Joshua has been involved in the development of this board. Knowing this FC must be good if someone as good as him had assisted in its development, I was sold immediately. Now I am in the process of building my third racing quad. This one is my first with an F4 FC though. This time I am stuck. No matter how carefully I have followed the numerous instructional videos and the manual and other articles on the web, I could not get my spectrum satellite to go into bind mode. I have used three separate sat Rx's to no avail. All of them are DSM2 and so I'm using the following commands in the CLI after selecting SerialRX on UART3 and choosing Serial-based Receiver / Spectrum1024 under the Receiver portion of the Configuration tab in BF 3.2.2 set spektrum_sat_bind = 3 set spektrum_sat_bind_autoreset = OFF save (and then I power cycle the board but no blinking orange LED) Hmmm! I have soldered the satellite receiver wires correctly. Orange to +3.3V, Black to G, and Gray to R3 exactly as indicated in the manual. I have also tried with the bind command =3,5,7&9 options although I believe 3 is the one that must work. I have checked the voltage with a multimeter and am absolutely sure the required 3.3V is present at the Sat Rx connector. To make sure my Sat Rx is not faulty, I have tested with two other Spectrum satellite receivers to no avail. I have checked and rechecked everything several times and am exhausted. I could try binding the rx to my DX8 in the traditional way and carry on. But I really want to learn something today by knowing what is going on. I would appreciate if Joshua or anyone of you pro pilots would tell me as to what silly mistake I possibly could be making here. I am sure I could not have messed up the FC while soldering as I am an electronics/computer repair technician. I have not had this binding issue with my other F3 FC's. Please teach me, Joshua. And thanks for sharing your knowledge.

Spek Sat bind mode doesn't work on most F4 boards. You have to use a full spektrum receiver to perform the bind, then you can use the speksat on your FC. I recommend the LM0027. amzn.to/2yeFmSQ

I am flying the non AIO version of this on two copters and love it However when i try to enable dynamic filtering, things get weird. I can enable the setting and all is good but as soon as i set it to PT1 i get bad howling that sounds like motors if i disable the notch filters it gets worse and with just pt1 it’s un flyable, i go back to biquad and all is good flys great both my copters do this i have it on a chameleon frame and a 3” Loki x3 both fly great with the regular filtering but the dynamic filtering makes them both act the same in PT1. i have a micro lux V2 F4 on a mobi x2 with the dynamic filtering on and pt1, and all filters off and it flys better then either of the larger craft Any idea. Why This would happen ? both the other craft are the same with aikon 4 in 1 speed controller and FC, only difference is the frame size

Hi Joshua, I have a problem with the Kakute F4, I already installed the newest Betaflight version, but when I want to change some values, such as the VTX_Channel and VTX_Power, it doesn't write them to the board. What I mean is that it seems to update the values but it does not. For example, if I change the vtx channel what I expect is to loose the signal in the goggles... but the image remains. After any reboot the values returns to the defaults.

You could probably remove the gyro from the foam and let it sit outside of the stack, might be more room to soft mount it directly to the frame next to the stack instead. Should work just as well and saves some (usually) precious stack space.

Hey had the gyro quick working 1 month into flying (15 packs or so) and the ribbon looks good. Everything else is good.. seen a lot of reviews saying their gyro went out too... any tips? It doesnt seem that changing the ribbon, even if I were a wizard and able to do that soldering, would be a fix. What else would cause the gyro to go dead in BF and in the field?

Joshua, it looks like brass around the mounting holes -- but is it? Want to know if it may be possible to carve the hole out for additional soft mounting. Also have to be honest and I crash hard and often and I'ma little worried about how the gyro is mounted. Time will tell I suppose.

Nice review Joshua... I just built a 250 quad and this board made it so easy. The only thing I've had an issue with is the onboard storage for Blackbox. Betaflight says there is no flash storage so I'm not able to record flight logs. Any ideas on this?

ive liked omnibus f4 v3 but id like to find something that i can directly use battery voltage off pdb and not have a flight controller that needs a voltage regulator. So maybe this would be good choice?

Great Job on the Manual Joshua, got one of these on the way & was giving the manual a once over & spotted something that made me think twice, At the top of page 9, there is a box that states: Solder the video wire from the video transmitter (vTX) to the VI pad on the Kakute F4 AIO. Solder the video wire from the camera to the VO pad on the Kakute F4 AIO.Is it me..? shouldn't the Camera signal wire go to VI (video in to the board) & the VO ( video out to the VTX) ?

The manual says this fc can run 32khz gyro rate, every time i put the gyro to 32khz i get 100% cpu load on the latest firmware. Is there something im doing wrong?

You need to overclock the CPU to run at 32k. In the CLI, type: set cpu_overclock=on save

I'm having an issue flashing the latest firmware on my kakute F4 as soon as I load the firmware and go to flash it disconnects either when I have the button pushed in while plugging in the usb or not

Not sure what you mean by "it disconnects". When you plug in, nothing is connected. Assuming you are running Windows: have you installed the VCP drivers? Can you connect normally to the board (not in firmware flashing mode)? Assuming you are running Windows: download "ImpulseRC Driver Fixer" and run it. Press the bootloader button and plug in USB. Wait for it to "fix" the drivers. Un-plug. Plug in again in bootloader mode. You should see "DFU" in the pulldown menu in the upper-right of the configurator. I just brought home my kopis 1 and spectrum dx6e radio and I desperately need someone to SHOW me where to connect the receiver because I paid the hobby store to do it but every time I power it on it goes into bind mode??? Like every time.... Is that normal? I am new to this please help...

Iknow that im really late for this video but I have just started my first drone build. EVERYTHING was working fine yesterday, but this morning I tried to turn my drone on and the drone wasnt responding to my tx. The receiver was telling me that it was bound to the transmitter but nothing was working. I checked in betaflight and in the receiver tab the board wasnt sensing my inputs. can someone please help me because this is my first build and im really stressing out over this. I am running a Kakute F4 V2.1 and the buzzer is constantly on. I have betaflight setting same as my other models and mode tab shows it should be off, so it seems like a board issue?

It could be a board issue, yes. Make sure you have connected the buzzer to the correct pad. If you simply connect buzzer to any ground pad it will be on constantly.

i used it and I love it. But not with the unstable firmware 3.2 that comes with. With 3.1.7 flies like a charm on 8/8khz.

Hi Joshua, I've recently purchased a Kakute F7 FC combo with 4in1 ESC for a long range quad that I'm building. Firstly your manual for the F7 is excellent, well done. Though I hope you can help me. I'm planning to used an external Holybro GPS/Compass so I will be utilizing the SCL/SDA pads. For all my other freestyle quads I'm using Betaflight 3.4. Though I'm a little lost as to which software I should use to gain maximum performance and features available by using the GPS/Compass on board, i.e. either Betaflight or iNav?

Hey. I got the Kakute F4 V2 and i have many Problems with the OSD. When i lift of the OSD start to flicker and at the end it is totaly blurred that i can not read it. My Foxeer Predator Micro and the TBS Unify HV Race gettong the Power direct from the Lipo. I dont know what to to to fix it. An you help me?

First thing to check is: are the motor screws touching the windings. Test every screw with a multimeter! kzbin.info/www/bejne/m6CVpJ2Kg7hjpsU

Where is the UART1 located on this board? I just see only UART3 and UART6(R3,T3 & R6,T6). Great video, thanks
