Thank you for explaining the reason why Korea is not celebrating Christmas as much as Filipinos do because the major religion is Buddhism. Marami kaming natutunan rin sa iyo. Impressive ang Tagalog mo. As if you are a native Filipino. I am also from Davao. Medyo malapit ang Tagum sa Davao, an hour and a half ride. Maybe you know how to speak Bisaya because majority of locals in Mindanao is Bisaya but there are also a lot of Tagalog and some Ilonggo, too.

What I remember of simbang gabi during the Spanish era (as per college Filipino subject discussion) was originally intended for the Filipino farmers since they could not attend mass during day time. Until now, Filipinos are still observing it, while in Vatican they don't observe simbang gabi. Only in the Philippines.....

simbang gabi or misa de gallo for 9 days dec 16-24. from september you started hearing christmas carols on the radio, malls like everywhere, kids are having fun caroling from one house to another at the top of their lungs just to get few coins LOL! there are lots of serious carolers also where the proceeds will go to different purposes, to fund or to help whatever. parang pinoy kana rin dahil you speak taglish just like us. our warmth, hospitality and smiles attract foreigners easily. they feel welcome the moment they see our smile.
@elisac47502 жыл бұрын
The reason why Christmas is long in the Philippines is that we don't just celebrate the birth of Christ but we begin on the birthday of Mother Mary (Mother of Christ) which is September 8 and ends on the Epiphany around the 1st Sunday of January. It is so nice to hear foreigners talk about this and especially since you speak Filipino well. God bless you

I might try to go visit Philippines this coming year 2022. And just waiting till my daughter finishes her college degree. I might let her experience this celebration back to Philippines. Ilang taon na rin ako dito sa US. But have not miss any of those celebration. Will do it this year when pandemic will be over.

Bumibili kami ng ice candy na supot tapos bili kami ng color paper na ibat ibang kulay. Most Catholics in the Philippines practice this tradition--the "Simbang Gabi" or dawn masses (starting on dawn if Dec. 16 and ends on Dec. 24, Christmas Eve). Love when you mention abt. Jose Mari Chan's song "Christmas In Our Hearts". It depicts the real meaning of Christmas--celebrating it in our hearts. It's one of my fave songs (you can hear in the air waves in the whole Philippines as soon as "Ber months" start).

Bro, "Pinoy" ka na because "Taglish" na rin ang pagsasalita mo. Re Christmas celebration esp. the "Ber months", I recalled making "parols" or Christmas lanterns in school. It's a common project in class to make your own parol and add it to decorate the school corridors. It's a common practice a month before Christmas.
