@JoshuaStormmusic11 ай бұрын
Something about Calvin Rodgers keeping that back beat while he does his fills. That's important. Helps the rest of the band and the singers to stay with it. Second thing, he doesn't over do that messy double time chops stuff. Don't know bout y'all but drummers nowadays over do that and get lost in there, ignoring the foundational groove. End of rant. Thanks Josh for these videos. Shout out to Calvin "C Rod" thee goat!

man that guitar groove at the 13 min mark is life changing. Especially when you combine it with the intro and then Calvin's transition into the next part of the song. smh....good lord that's a clinic.
@jackierayprofitjr11 ай бұрын
@JoshDrumClass @lfloydmusiq I think I saw you asking about the lead guitarist who played at the 115th Holy Convocation Midnight Musical Drummer Reaction with John P Kee. His name is Leeland Thompson, and he is also the lead guitarist for Quartet Gospel Artist Pastor Daryl Pettis and Take 2 from Memphis, TN. I have seen him perform with Pastor Daryl Pettis and Take 2, and he is amazing. They have a song called "I Believe It's Turning Around for Me" that is excellent from start to finish, and Leeland Thompson's skills are truly impressive. It's rare to find a quartet guitar player who can seamlessly transition to playing with a choir without any noticeable difference. I hope John keeps him, as he has had many musicians come and go. In the mid-90s, two of my cousins went to audition with him in Charlotte, but their dad didn't want them to go on the road with John.

Cats were really critical of C-Rod on this, "His chops weren't clean", "He was missing hits." It's been said that he (Calvin) wasn't scheduled play. If you look behind Calvin to his left, Chris Darden is there kinda guiding him through it some it. If he really wasn't supposed to play, to go as hard as he did with minimal notice if phenomenal!

@@aubryquinn3756he usually does that medley though there's a lot of videos of his drummers playing through it. So Calvin has probably heard it but that doesn't means he's committed it to memory.

@dacboigames8477, @lfloydmusiq I think you were saying that the lead guitar player for John P. Kee is Leeland Thompson, not Leo. He is from Memphis, TN. He also plays lead guitar for Pastor Daryl Pettis and Take 2, a quartet group from Memphis, TN. I believe you were asking if John P. Kee is from North Carolina. Yes, John P. Kee is originally from Durham, NC, and he mentions this often in his songs. He says, "I'm from Durham, NC, outside the county line." He currently lives in Charlotte, NC, and pastors a church there.
