When an HP Compaq business model said "Downgraded to", that usually meant that it came from the factory with the option to downgrade. Like, you'd have the usual Vista/7 Recovery CDs, and the CD for XP

I totally agree with what you said at the end. My school got these in the lab when I was attending and I remember saying the same thing, looks very cool like a server/workstation. The upgrades you did made this old machine still acceptable for most people's daily tasks.

Core 2 Duo's are still more than capable of handling the modern Internet. So long as you have 4GB of RAM you're more than good to go. One thing I'd like to suggest though is that for any computer older than 2012, the integrated graphics is not enough to accelerate the GUI, which also extends to web browsing, so the CPU has to work three times as hard, rendering all the graphics in software. You should drop in a cheap Windows 10-capable GPU in all your old systems, too! Anything as old as the Nvidia GeForce 400 Series and the AMD Radeon HD 5000 Series work with Windows 10+ with supported drivers.

I have a Dell Inspiron 530 with a E8400, 8gbs of DDR2 800mhz RAM, R7 240 2gb GDDR5 and an SSD. It runs windows 10 easily, and is pretty zippy. Those Core 2 Duos still hold up reasonably well.

It's working well, but 8 GB., of ram., and a Linux OS., would give it a whole new lease of life.

I had Dells of the same age and specs and they flew with a light version of Linux. Now my oldest pcs are of the DDR 3 era but a higher clocked Core 2 is a fine cpu for Linux.

Very nice device. You can also buy 4 GB DDR2 modules as a single stick. Of course, I don't know if they would work with this device.

It can only take up to 4gbs.

I missed having any motherboards with DDR2. I went from DDR400 (ASUS PC-DL dual Xeon) to DDR3 (ASUS H97 Plus.) I was a long time between PCs haha. There's 1.5 GB of DDR400 in my parts. 2x512 MB & 2x256 MB If power is interrupted, my Dell 3010 starts, the BIOS does a system check and then it shuts down on first button press. It boots normally without the check until I unplug it again LOL.

@@cageliner I feel like I had so many systems with DDR2, that ddr3 was a luxury 😅
