In this journal club episode, Victoria Field is joined by Dr. Angela Poff and Dr. Dominic D’Agostino to dive into two groundbreaking studies shaping our understanding of metabolism and its role in health and disease. The team explores the nuances of a recent randomized controlled trial on ketogenic diets, free sugar restriction, and their effects on glucose tolerance, lipid metabolism, and the gut microbiome. Then, they tackle a cutting-edge study uncovering the molecular mechanisms of ketogenic diets in reshaping cancer metabolism through lysine beta-hydroxybutylaration.
From the clinical implications of these findings to the potential of ketone supplementation, this episode is packed with insights for researchers, clinicians, and health enthusiasts. Don’t miss the opportunity to learn how these discoveries could shape the future of precision medicine.

Have been following Dominic for a long time, originally on Diet Doctor, and as a non science person, appreciate the work he is doing on the importance of keto. Also love the cancer connection and metabolism that people don’t want to listen to. Excellent podcast and keep up the good work to all of you.

This is fascinating stuff. I'm going back to keto because it did seem to have a regenerative impact. And plain and simple, I felt good on keto. I'm 67, just retired from the corporate world, opening a small business. Gotta keep the brain and body moving at their peak!

Keto is just the natural diet. You went "back to" whatever it was when you were doing when you weren't keto. Ketosis is just a normal metabolic state for the human organism.

Agree! I went off track last holiday season and stayed off for a year. Totally my fault and being hooked on sugar and carbs.

There are sometimes omissions made by the authors - in terms of context - but that in the end is a failure of the journal, journal editors, and the reviewers they choose. Journals market themselves to those who have funding. More citation rankings would be desirable.

The length and voice pitch of the advertisement are really annoying. What a turn off.

I was keto before it beamed a cultish fad. After 4 years my testosterone tanked, my sleep sucked, my competitive running suffered. Could never recover. I looked like I lived in a concentration camp. I then went back to 4O% healthy carbs, 40% protein and 20% fat. My life improved within 10 days. My running times are better. Setting PRs. My muscle mass I good. Sleep good. Energy good. I now enjoy food again. Eliminating healthy carbs will cause one to end up with health issues in the long run. Goodbye restrictive living in the cult

I'm like you as far as macros. My brother on the other hand has been a keto proponent for over 15 years. Absolute machine of a man, former Army Ranger. Strength, endurance, low body fat. We are all very different.

I believe your story. But your story and your body are your own, and I hope you can appreciate that a bunch of the rest of us feel fantastic and are performing brilliantly on keto. I also encourage you to reconsider characterizing folks who do find success in keto (or whatever) as a “cult”. It’s dismissive, reductive, and just outright crummy.

It’s clearly a carb biased paper. It is politicized. I get so tired of the biased interpretation of the data.
