I saw Journey right after Steve Perry joined the band, it was the old Leona theatre in Pittsburgh - I won the tiks calling in on the radio, and when he hit some of his high screams there were plaster pieces crumbling off the ceiling into the audience... It was incredible to see and hear him, Neil Schon, Greg Rollie all onstage... 45 yr old memory I will never forget. This song was not written back then, but I can only image how the ending would have 'brought the house down' , literally, when they harmonized... Perry syncopated lyrics against the harmonies same lyrics...then that whole 'Lone lone lone lone looooone laaaay... ' how did he come up with some of his stuff... wow...

Incredible song. From a time back in the day, as they say, when people played their instruments, and reached for incredible musicianship. And we had singers like this, and the song-writing was other-worldly! What the heck happened? I'm just glad I was fortunate enough to grow up with this incredible music. @battokizu Жыл бұрын
The recording tech was pretty damn good in the 70's, this ain't no edison wax cylinder. Tapes by this point are still master quality. Hell they still used tape well into the 80's until digital production got cheap enough. Synths and likewise were perfected by this point and microphones and amps were about as good as they were going to get. Calling it bad tech is just wrong. Its why so much stuff from the 60s sounds half as good as it does, because it does.

Thinking of the Journey arcade game, which came out in 1983 and had the cover art of Frontiers adorning the bezel, marquee and title screen, I have always wondered why more songs from Escape were used in the game than from Frontiers, which was not only the latest album, but the one essentially advertised by the game’s artwork. The songs used in game are “Wheel In The Sky” and “Lights” from Infinity, “Don’t Stop Believin’”, “Stone In Love”, “Keep On Runnin’” and “Who’s Crying Now” from Escape, and “Chain Reaction” and “Separate Ways (Worlds Apart)” from Frontiers. I always thought one song from Frontiers could have replaced one of the Escape songs, and if it were left to me to choose, I would have replaced “Keep On Runnin’”, and my original choice to replace it with was “After The Fall”, but the more I’ve thought about it, I lean more toward “Ask The Lonely”. Sure, it wasn’t included on Frontiers, but to me being recorded for it is enough to qualify the song for the game, and think about the place in history this song would have gotten if it had been used in the game! This song could have been the first song recorded by a major rock band to be used in a video game before it was used anywhere else! All I have to say is missed opportunity.
