I recall listening to ‘Journey into Space’ for the first time as a school boy in the 1950’s. Lots of memories. Very dated but that makes it better!

It certainly records a fixed moment in time. But is still a great story. I'm glad you've found it here again.

My favourite listening for a long boring flight. The imagery is different to us than the people when it was originally broadcast. That makes it so good 😊
@sailorsquatandhisseamanАй бұрын
That is a very interesting statement relating to imagery! I suppose the different times in which one grew up, not having the history of certain things or of new things, would very much reflect on the way one imagines these dramas. I’d like to hear you expound on your thoughts!
@journeyintospacefans18 күн бұрын
That's an interesting thought. I suppose the imagery depends on your background and events that shaped your life. Very much different listening today than in the 60s

This is superb! I have heard the first 2 series a few times, and never knew this series even existed... and 8 hours of blissfull journeying throught Space with 'Jet' Morgan and Crew.... Being a total lover of Science Fiction/Faction this story is right up my Audio Alley, so to speak. Many thanks for the editing you must have completed. A fairly daunting task to begin with I'd imagine. 💫👽👽👽💜

I think that I heard some of those broadcasts on short wave in the mid 50's when my family was stationed in the Phillipines. I loved them then when I was in 3rd grade and waited eagerly each week for the next episode. So great to hear them now as a single recording.
@journeyintospacefans Жыл бұрын
That's great to hear. I'm pleased you're enjoying them. Since first hearing them, I'd always wanted to create a single recording of them all, so I could get lost in the story, without realising I'd hit the end of another episode.

I had to look it up. "contact" was shouted by pilots of old propeller planes when they turned on the magnetos, to warn the guy who spun the blades. It became the standard phrase when starting engines.

It is astounding that this series of stories was written nearly 70 years ago by Charles Chiltern who's imagination was inspirational and so advanced for that time. .
@journeyintospacefans2 жыл бұрын
Absolutely. He did however also have friends in the space industry that he took advice from, regarding technology and potential dates for moon landings, etc, which gave the stories an air of realism, which is remarkable that the stories still hold up today.
@kadiummusic Жыл бұрын
Don't forget it was written not long we 'supposedly' played golf on the moon. 😎
@journeyintospacefans Жыл бұрын
@@kadiummusic Yes. The first series came out before we went to the moon. Charles Chiltern spoke with a scientist friend of his to try to make it as realistic as possible.

I can’t help but think that if “intelligent life” does exist somewhere in the universe - they have observed us for long enough to know it is best if they never reveal themselves to us… Any alien would learn from their observations of how humans behave towards each other that they wouldn’t receive a warm welcome should they make themselves known to us!
@journeyintospacefans Жыл бұрын
And that is the ultimate question! Are they there? Have they seen us yet?

@@journeyintospacefans I thought at the end of the 2nd season it was either going to be the benevolent time travelling aliens at a different point in their timeline where they had become (or used to be) hostile or that it was humans from the future (perhaps criminals or a deposed dictator) who had traveled back in time.

My point is that my images are influenced by 1970s Dr who whereas the 1950s listeners where influenced by the early sci-fi movies. And isn't amazing a lot has come to be real . Series like the original Star Trek so far ahead of its time. As they say the pictures are bretter on the radio😊

I feel that Lemmy represents the class system of the time that this was written. Those in charge, upper class with upper class accents and those like Lemmy with his feisty London character representing the working class. Loyally following his superiors orders. Except for those of the Martians that is. 😱
