This is the first time I've listened to a podcast with a comedian that actually explained the technical process of stand-up or improv. Sometimes when you watch American comics feature as guests, their perspective is filled with quips or anecdotes or bits. It's fun, but this is so nice as someone who actually wants a taste of the theory and intention that goes behind the method.

Can't stop laughing on that Raisin joke- No! Don't put me in your mouth!! :) Truly enjoy all Kaneez's improv shows, especially the way it makes you feel more connected, like you are actually participating in it too. Would absolutely love to see long form improv too! :)

I'm not an expert on improv or anything, but at my college, I have worked with a few people who manage the college improv troupe (i go to ucl in london). almost all the shows they do are longform improv and they use what they call "bristol" style improv, which i think is focused a little more on doing longform improv. the performances they do are always based on a certain fictional framework, like they have a setting and some amount of character info that is repeated in each show. but they build the show each performance with audience suggestions and stuff. like they do a show called "point blank" (which they did at the edinburgh fringe this year) which is basically an "improve heist" so the set up is that theyre performing a heist, and then from there they improvise the whole show. i worked with them on another show called the archive which was about an archive machine from the future that's logging human history - each performance begins with the 'narrator' (basically acting like the improv leader) explaingin the archive machine (aka the rest of the troupe) and what it does. from there they would take audience suggestions about "footage" the archive machine was playing back, and the rest of the troupe uses that suggestion to do a bit. each bit would kind of start of normally and escalate to weirdness, and then they would move one. it was kind of like doing a bunch of short form improve pieces, but they tied it together with this outer framework to make one long form piece.

Also, Improv works only when players have good vocabulary. Ideas need to be put into words, orelse it will end up as a show that had potential but didn't work out.
