I was at this very concert when I was 13 years old...what a great night that was! And, you can't imagine how huge this song was at the time. "Open Arms" was played at every Jr. High and High School dance across the country that year. The decade of the 80's was a great time to be a teenager!

This was live. That's what's crazy. Most bands do it in a studio after many takes, but never replicate everything at first try when live. Perry nailed it on stage just as on album. Doesn't happen very often.

Steve is also a drummer, so what you noticed with his stride isn't too unusual. He was originally a drummer/singer in his younger days. Journey management, at one time, talked about setting up two sets of drums on stage. That never happened.

I love Steve Perry he has always been been nice to me we have mutual friends and I have met him a few times he is a humble guy and he gives to charity's, but he doesn't put his name on them he is a great Father and he loves to cook, and his favorite food to make is Italian and Brazilian cuisine he was born in Hanford California about 35 miles from me ,but his Mother and Father are from Brazil ,and he has a small house there, and LA, Hanford, Lemoore about 10 minutes from Hanford California, and San Francisco. Not every big house's and he only buys a car when they start to break down. He really watches his money. He has never been married, and has 5 children. He also has a solo career and the his newest album is album is about Kelly who passed away to cancer ,and his last album was detected to her in 2017th I didn't think she had any kids. She was a Therapist, and Steve took very good care of her till her death. I'm not sure, but I think she had Cancer of the Brain. It's amazing to me that in his 70's he can still sing and write music. Love you Steve. XOXO Brandi Modrak XOXO means hugs and Kisses to you and your family.

What an amazing reaction Hap.💕🎶 This was played at my wedding and again at my husband's funeral, and a thousand times in between.. yes, it was "our song". One of the greatest love songs ever. Yesterday was his birthday and seemed a fitting tribute.❤ To me, this is Journey at their best. The official lyric version is actually better, due to some additional vocal inflections. It absolutely gives me chills every time I hear it. No one can sing this song, like Steve Perry. He is incomparable. Peace J ✌ ☮

Hard to believe in 1982 this song only reached #2 on the US Billboard hot 100 and stayed there for six weeks...The 2 songs that prevented it from reaching number 1 were Centerfold by J. Geils band and I Love Rock and Roll by Joan Jett. VH1 placed it at #1 on their 25 greatest power ballads list. The reason why I am a die hard fan and why so many others are is because we grew up listening to them and have special memories. Plus, without a doubt one of the greatest vocals I've ever heard...

"Send Her My Love" is your favorite? What about "When You Love a Woman"? That one had you in tears, but still not your favorite? Just joking with ya! I just love that you are finally understanding the magnitude of this group! Anyway, if you watch other Journey videos, you'll find that Steve keeps time with the drums quite often. That's because he's also a drummer. He played drums in high school, and in a couple of other groups he was in before joining Journey. So he's still a drummer at heart.

I was surprised when he said he only likes about two songs from Journey! What? Queen is my favorite band overall and definitely my favorite British band.. journey is one of my favorite American bands.. I'm trying to think there are others I like it as well.. as far as bands, I like Linkin Park and their lyrics are pretty awesome. Heartbreaking what happened to Chester and the suicide and all. It happens with anyone and even famous people are not immune from anxiety & severe depression. I just flipped out when he said there were only two journeysongs he really really likes "send her my love" and I guessing this one and maybe another one now... Fleetwood Mac is my favorite American British band Duo.. damn they're awesome

@@HAP3SPEAKZ I don’t think he ever played drums in any professional bands. He always focused on his singing, but yeah, he’s a drummer and he knows what he wants as a drummer. After the Infinity album (the first Journey album he was on) he wanted the drummer fired because Ansley Dunbar was more of a jazz/fusion drummer and wanted to push the song, but Perry wanted a more groove drummer who laid back a bit more. That’s when they hired Steve Smith. He also plays bass when he writes.

Hey my Friend, I am loving watching you get into Journey and Steve Perry! Steve’s voice in my opinion is absolutely flawless. His soulful tenor style and crystal clear soaring vocals are amazing. Sam Cooke was one of his idols and you can tell by his style. His voice is one of the few that when you hear it, you KNOW it’s him. If you enjoyed this, you need to check out another power ballad called Why Can’t This Night Go On Forever. It’s from The Raised on Radio album. Another beautiful soulful love song by Steve Perry is Missing You. You should definitely check them out. You won’t be disappointed. Enjoy and keep them coming ♥️♥️♥️

100% agree. There are very few bands/artists that I'm a huge fan of and will listen to most of their songs over and over. I like songs individually. Journey is a beautiful band and I do agree he deserves the title of "The voice" but there are only a handful of their songs I can say I would listen to often though. This is one of them. (and hey. This song always makes me cry..... Although Steve Perry is synonymous with Journey, the whole band line-up during this era are extremely accomplished. Guitarist Neil Schon started his career at FIFTEEN with Santana! Jon Cain was with The Babys, Ross Valory from Montrose, and Steve Smith is considered one of the most talented, versatile drummers of his time, able to play absolutely any genre. One of his biggest fans was none other than Rush's Neil Peart. Nuff said.

Earlier today I listened to someone else sing this song. I stopped it 1/2 thru. It wasn't even close. There is Steve Perry and no one else with this beautiful song and you did it justice.
