I came to YT to try to find the history of Pontefract Castle, specifically during the Civil War. One of my ancestors served in Ramsden's division, but I had no idea what happened. History is not my strong point and unfortunately Pontefract is a fair drive from me, so thank you for this video to help me see and understand some of what happened with the history of the Castle. I'd love to find out more one day.

Thank you for this. I'm from Pontefract but I live in Barnsley now. I haven't been here since I was a child, all I wanted to do then was run around pretending to be a knight. I'll be sure to visit and pay more attention to the history next time. Still I may run around and pretend to be a knight again 😅

Richard died of starvation in the dungeon in suspicious circumstances. It would be the largest castle in Europe if still standing..but it was too powerful a tool against the monarchy to remain..the stone was repurposed into building the town and across the vale of york buildings are made of castle stone
