Journey to the Mortlocks aboard the Lien Pukial

Join me aboard the Lien Pukial as we journey 188 miles from Weno in the Chuuk lagoon to the Mortlocks. This trip, we’re traveling like the locals. I'll share a tour of the vessel, stunning scenery, the challenges of open water travel, and the joy of returning to Moch Island.

Traveling to the Mortlock Islands is incredibly difficult for a foreigner. There are no hotels or hostels to stay at; you must have an invitation from a local individual or family. I am able to share this experience with you because, from 2013-2015, I lived with a host family on Moch Island during my Peace Corps service. I have maintained positive relationships with the family and community at large over these years.
