They celebrate a land that their ancestors lived in a shorter time than they have been in Paraguay. Odd.
@helena_aña Жыл бұрын
We paraguayans cherish our worldwide-mixed DNA and cultural roots, no matter the continent our ancestors came from out of respect of their suffering and resiliency - they all went through a lot. Over the centuries since the first Spaniards and Guaraní met until today, we have created a beautiful and truly diverse cultural amalgamation out of that. Yes, in our modern narcissistic and extremely individualist western world, to honour the ancestors is odd. And we love that kind of odd. Saludos. 🤗

Probably those ancestors liked/missed Australia a lot, and the descendants inherited that nostalgia, can't blame them: the Sun, the beaches, the families.

@@22grena yes, it's heartbreaking what is happening now in Ireland (and the rest of Europe) - some are trying to import/copy some shitty laws from there (UE/UK) claiming they come from the "first world" and we should follow the "example", but we're rejecting everthing so far. And btw, we know how brave Irish are, one of our heroines from the Great Triple Alliance war (was a genocide basically) here was Irish, Eliza Lynch. en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Eliza_Lynch

Home? Why are they obsessed with returning. They been in Paraguay longer than their ancestors were in Australia. “Home is where one starts from.” -T.S. Eliot
@andres68684 жыл бұрын
I don't think they have actual nostalgia for Australia, the reason they want to return is simpler: Australia is a rich country and Paraguay is a poor country
@wilsonblauheuer65444 жыл бұрын
@@andres6868 I don't think Paraguay is all that poor. people have enough food, and they seem to have a nice rustic simple life. There are riches inherent just living that way. Course they do live under a military type government with a history of human rights outrages, so THAT is one thing to worry about, but if they have the right to own good firearms, they can mitigate that threat.

My mother would speak of a colony who went to what she thought was Argentina. Her father, a strong socialist and teetotaller christian, who fought for better work conditions for the fruit packing women and was sacked, would speak of this colony. He too, never believed in gambling, drinking or prostitution. He would receive communist news and propaganda which at the time was illegal, though my mother stressed he was not communist. Thanks for this upload. A decades long story has now been confirmed.

Can’t imagine moving from “the new frontier Australia” to an even more remote and lagging country like Paraguay only to see a few generations later that Australia turned out great and Paraguay is still kind of a country that lags terrifically behind

I swear Paraguay is somewhat an odd country. Over half of the population had perished just under a single war, and they have been a breeding ground for incestuous Socialists and Nazi fugitives. No hate to Paraguayans, they have been through a lot in history.

@fragolegirl20025 жыл бұрын
peter gbrics yep, I met gypsies. They seem weird. Met them in Italy and Spain. Some gypsies in Spain have no more gypsy culture and are assimilated but Spaniards still call them gypsies cuz they are brown or look different. I been there too. The ones in Italy are immigrants from Romania. Some Romanians see them as the same. One Romanian spoke to me in her language, thought I was Romanian, (btw I am brown) it turns out some Romanian are dark because they are of gypsy origin while the more common Romanians are Slavic in their racial origin ironic cuz their language is latin origin. If you live in Italy for a while Romanian and Italian look different and the gypsy Romanian even more different.
@petergbrics72605 жыл бұрын
fragolegirl2002 Awesome.Now next step you should move in to a neigbourhood where gypsies live and you will see that not their skin color is the reason why they are hated.I’m from Hungary by origin.Same situation like everywhere in Eastern Europe.There are the natives,Slavs,Hungarians,or Italians and these people who came in to Europe and do the same thing wheverever they go.Probbaly Romania and Bulgaria is the worst today,they have millions of them by now.Do not trust those people ever of you may pay a heavy price.

This is a very interesting video but it does gloss over a lot of William Lane's Racism and troublesome views. New Australia wasnt founded on mateship and equality as this suggests. Before leaving Australia Lane wrote "White or Yellow?: A Story of the Race War of A.D. 1908" and pushed to have New Australia as a "Brotherhood of English Speaking Whites" which is probably why he didnt stay in Paraguay when the other New Australians didn't share his view. He later died in New Zealand, probably moving there after Paraguay absorbed New Australia because it was more caucasian. Its all very interesting, but its important to remember that he was a product of his time and there most definitely was an element of racism in his approach of a socialist utopia
@Jcwhiggins5 ай бұрын
@varalderfreyr8438 his racism. He was very against interracial relationships and even after the land for new Australia was practically given to them by Paraguay with no taxation, he still considered them dirty people, troublesome and savage. There was definitely racism at play here. That’s probably the most troubling views that he had, especially when Paraguay was so generous to him. He eventually became fed up with the rest of the group and left after complaints of him acting like a dictator. M. De C. Findlay who visited wrote about how Lane managed to take a bunch of men that worked the land back in Australia. They had many applications for new Australia and chose the cream of the crop, who described as “a fine class of men who “would be sure to succeed” then after settling and living under Lane (who was described as having mannerisms of a dictator), Finlay arrived in the new colony expecting to see the blossoming of a socialist Utopia; he was instead greeted with what he described as “hell upon earth”. There are a few records written about this that are still pretty accessible. It seems like people in that day were excited and curious about this as it was billed as “the first socialist experiment that could work” by enthusiasts and critics alike. If you don’t find racism and an overbearing figure of government troublesome then you probably wouldn’t have had any issues with the setup

@22Doriano6 жыл бұрын
Yes, besides Liberia, there were the Confederados that got land grants in the Brazilian Empire during and after the American Civil War, the colony is called Americana I believe? The Brazilian Emperor at the time brought in thousands of American confederates. The Mexican Emperor, Maximilian I, also gave Confederates land grants and established various colonies throughout Mexico. There are tens of thousands of descendants around Mexico of these colonist as well, but not as organized as the ones in Brazil, where they even have Confederate parties and such, but are very ignorant on the slave history of their ancestors, even though Brazil at the time still had slavery, one of the reasons they moved there.
